Pours clear, deep mahogany into a tumbler. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes leaving sheet lacing. Dark caramel and earthy pit fruit aromas. Medium bodied with dark molasses, fig, date and oak tannins upfront turning to dark mushroom, toasted multigrain sourdough, and earthy bark in the lasting finish. Complex.

Canned 11/11/21, drunk 11/22/21. Deep copper, good clarity, with a large, white head showing good retention. Toasty and full of various caramel, bread, mineral and vanilla notes, with boisterous raspberry and cherry esters. Not too heavy on the specialty malt character, with no flaw or alcohol. Light herbal/peppery hops complement gently. Very flavorful, tons of bread, light caramel and red fruit/melanoidin-like character. Gently peppery/lightly bitter hops. Soft, malty, dry and clean with excellent minerality and complexity. Definitely pushing the boundaries of the darker/toastier/caramel-rich maltiness, but there really are no Altbier rules, so whatever. Plus, it's damned delicious, especially for its size.
