Hops have been called a pernicious, devilish weed. If so, let’s dance with this devil and triple down on hops. This intense triple IPA was dry-hopped not once, not twice, but three times with El Dorado, Simcoe, and Cascade hops for a bedeviling hit of citrus, stone fruit, and pine flavor, all balanced by an oat-driven malt backbone and massively smooth body.

Super clear, but deep golden, orange and even light copper coloured body, all with a nice, slightly frothy two to three centimetre tall tan creamy head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of alcohol, astringent metal and malt, a bit of oranges, citrus fruit and piney hops and a very large dose of malts with some associated depth. Full-bodied; Super strong, very syrupy, sticky flavours dominate with a ton of grass, hay, flowers, but the deep metals, malt and super aggressive malts and associated alcohol and astringency dominate here and leave the palate almost damaged - they are VERY strong! Aftertaste luckily brings out some sweetness, resin, honey and especially syrupy notes, but they again fade pretty quickly and only show the bitter, malty and alcohol side after a few seconds with the deep grapefruity and citrusey flavours strong as well. Overall, a 'real' Imperial IPA with a ton of bitterness, astringency, citrus and sweetness, but way too strong for me - I prefer mine to be MUCH easier going! Still great to try from way up north and super fresh. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Trig's Grocery in Wausau, Wisconsin on 07-August-2021 for US$1,87!!!, canned on 19-April-2021 and sampled at my house here back in Washington on 29-August-2021.

Can. Slightly unclear amber with a white head that hangs around a bit. A bit of a liniment aroma with menthol and oranges, light biscuit, some overt alcohol. Only medium bodied, really quite smoothly textured with medium low carbonation. The pine notes sit much better in the mix upon a taste with the citrus seeming tenor register and a finish that's spicy, bitter and only a bit boozy. The malt is moderately characterful and very well judged so that the hops are not harsh but still boss the show. It's all thoroughly unnecessary of course, but fun stuff.

Deep golden, thin white. Big stonefruit, white grapefruit, palatines with big bready notes. Very full bodied, boozy, massive hops and massive malts. Warming finish. Very Surly. Just a bit too big and not refined enough. Very big maltiness. I like it, but glad I shared and wouldn’t have again.

Pint can from Woodman's Sun Prairie, 8/2/21. Hazy orange, medium frothy tan head, good retention. Aroma of tangerine, candied orange, grapefruit. Taste is tangerine, grapefruit, dank, green hops. Juicy, mild to moderate bitterness. Booze well hidden. Pretty nice.

The aromas are slightly oxidized melon hops with some mint and spice. Flavors are like nose, sweet up front with some growing bitterness, solvents and medicinal finish. Out of balance. Just drinkable.
