Generational is our Barrel-Aged Stout collaboration with our dear friends at Half Acre Beer Company in Chicago Illinois. We have been huge fans of this brewery even before Side Project ever existed! To have the opportunity to spend the day with Gabe, Matt and Lee 2 years ago, brewing up this massive stout, was one of my favorite brew days to date. We merged aspects of our pinnacle stout recipes - Benthic for them (but without the adjunct addition) and O.W.K. for us (but without any vanilla bean addition). The result is an unadulterated, non-adjunct Barrel-Aged Stout that we felt best represented the collaboration of our creative minds and the quality we were striving for.
This recipe was all malt - no oats! This was something that the Half Acre crew brought to the table and is very rare for the Side Project barrel collection. The result is so awesome that we want to brew this again and add it to our barrel repertoire for blending in future blends! We also loved how the base beer matured, and we didn't make the call to "non-adjunct" this final beer until it reached maturity. After 2 years in Buffalo Trace barrels, the blending began and we all agreed that the best way to showcase this beer with you was just as is.

750ml (thx, Brent L.!) @ Ryan's shared with Josh, Farees, and Phill.
Aroma: sophisticated American oak, some sweetness and chcocolate.
Taste: along the same lines, noticeably boozy, light char from bourbon barrel.
Overall: nice one.

Dark brown. Sort of a dark chocolate, with a bit of fruit. A decent amount of bourbon on this as well. On the palate, nice umami, roast, meaty character. Soft. Some alcohol and the bourbon is restrained.

Poured from 750mL bottle (blend 1; 15% ABV). Near black with minimal beige head. Mild old woody barrel, with slightly soured roast malt, medium body, not worth the price.

Bottle at "Johnny's got a new place" beer celebration. Opaque jet black color, dark brown colored head. Aroma is malts, chocolate, roasty, oh wow. Flavor is malts, roasty, rich dark chocolate, thick mouthfeel, light soy sauce, booze, bourbon. Awesome sticky texture, thick body, soft carbonation. Oh man, this is crazy stuff. The hype is real it seems...

Bottle shared by MJ. Black with brown head, viscous. Dark chocolate, earth loads of oak barrel, a bit of bourbon. Some heat. Dessert for grownups.

Bottle 750, courtesy of Eric. Shared with him and Miro B at Cellar above ground. Black with brownish head. Oily and dense. Very nice chocolate, bourbon, tad spicy, super smooth, drinks incredibly for 15%. Full bodied.

Bottle shared at Moor Beer Vaults - Bermondsey. Pours oily black with a small, foamy brown head. Big and sweet, nice vanilla, caramel and gooey chocolate notes. Full bodied with fine carbonation and chewy texture. Warming finish, further gooey chocolate, rich dark malt character, some fudge. Delicious beer.

Pours black, small tanned head. Scent is full, juicy impy, bit of soy sauce. Intense. Taste is full, intense, soy sauce, bourbon, woody (oak) , vaniline, medium booze. Typical SP, complex and fairly thick. To sharp, too boozy to me, which is a general opion of the brewery, even though the quality here is obviously very good.
