Typical Alvinne sourness meets multiple BA's... Nice but not great. That vinigar sourness is overpowering the BA's and that's a shame.

23/VII/22 - 75cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ Ardenne Holiday, BB: VII/2026, L19.1029 (2022-910)
Little cloudy orange beer, small creamy off-white to yellowish head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very funky, sourish impression, quite some vinegar, dry impression, a bit woody. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sour, acidic, burns quite a bit, fruity, dry, a little chemical. Aftertaste: fruity, peaches, some vinegar, a bit lemony, juicy, dry finish, more fruity, nice!

Bottle at Ambasada, shared with Hrabren & Ogi. Misty dark orange-golden body, off-white head. Peachy, funky aroma, light honey, some acetic, tart notes. Soft, sweetish taste, peachy, lightly citric, some berries, light acetic notes, wine notes, glue touches, ending tart. Complex, tasty, fairly impressive stuff.

Basic Alvinne sour ale made interesting by ageing in Bordeaux wine and white port barrels; from a 75 cl bottle with crown cap, bought at the Delhaize Zwijnaarde (to my complete surprise…). Snow white, large-bubbled, membrane-lacing but loosely structured and eventually dissolving head, warm orange blonde robe, very ‘pure’ with an amberish glow, clear at first but misty and more peachy later on. Aroma of sour grapes, apple vinegar, white currant, vanilla, gooseberry juice, crabapple, fermenting mandarin juice, dusty old oak wood, ripe apricot, sour cream, dry white wine and indeed a whiff of white port. Sour onset in a bright, fruity way, Granny Smith, gooseberry and cranberry with a sweeter peach- and even pear-like core (as typifies many Alvinne sours); rounded, full mouthfeel, softish carb, persistent yoghurty lactic tartness with lemony edge – but mitigated by that sweet-fruity aspect and by soft bready and slightly caramelly maltiness. Oaky tannins appear in the end, including retronasal ‘vanilla’, before the sweet-and-sour, vinous effects of wine and the sheer sweetness of white port come up – subtle enough not to clash with the fruity sourness of the beer. A touch of late, ‘deep’ and brief hop bitterishness adds structure in the very end; this gooseberry- and sour apple-like fruitiness, however, remains the dominant factor from beginning to end. Easily drinkable yet complex enough, a typical Alvinne sour in fact, which works absolutely fine for me. Enjoyed it a lot, cheers to Alvinne again!

THT. Unclear dark golden with white head. Sweet and sour, raisans, wine, grapes. Some of that trademark Alvinne D3 Woodglue. Soft and mild, a joy to drink. Nice.
