Never Mind The Bullock's PART2, Here is the Hopfenweisse.

Mule's interpretation of Schneider's old Hopfenweissbier concept, unsurprisingly perhaps as Mule - new kid on the block in Brussels - is possibly the first Belgian microbrewery to draw inspiration from the German beer culture; first released in 75 cl bottles for the BXL Beerfest (that did not take place for reasons all too well known) but apparently already part of their core range as well now. Thick and frothy, egg-white, opening but stable head on a misty orange blonde beer with amberish tinge, more cloudy with sediment. Aroma of white soap, chamomile, fresh mugwort leaf, bitter orange peel, thyme, unripe banana, unroasted peanuts, bergamot, dried ginger, camphor. Dryish-fruity onset, unripe banana and green pear, remaining dry and low in sweetness, medium carbonated; bread-crusty, peanutty maltiness, a tad toasty, developing a powerful, earthy and peppery hop bitterness in the end, with unexpected spicy aspects coming in as well (not just clove but bergamot, lemon thyme and cumin too), long and dry; citrus peel and soap impressions linger. Spicy, soapy, dry wheat beer, well-bittered so the "Hopfen" part is certainly well served - but I missed the Weizen part a bit, to be honest. Unusual, in any case, and enjoyable for what it is, but far removed from Schneider's perfect execution of a daring idea, with Weissbier in general being low in hoppiness traditionally speaking. Could have been much more.

Bottle @ Belgian Summer Gathering Sept' 21, Evergem. Merci Dylan.
