Bottle at the Royal Oak. Pretty brown-orange color, clear, with a low head. Fruity, malty nose, treacle, English hops, tobacco, cherry, peach, herbs. Excellent character. Lovely stuff.

Bottle at home on nicest day of spring which I’ll count as a Christmas present so this is appropriate. Pours fine amber thin head. Nose is some molasses and dark fruit. Tastes of molasses, malt, yeasty, plum, sour cherry, green raisins, caramel, hint of cough syrup. Sweet but not cloying boozy but not harsh.

Bottle from Harvey’s online shop. Appearance - deep amber red with a decent head. Nose - orange peel, cake and toffee. Taste - toffee and orange. Then caramel or honey. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long tangy finish. Overall - that’s like a barley wine.

Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb and nihtila. Pours clear amber gold, thin white head. Aromas of light spice, toffee, sugar. Taste is sweet, orange peel. Sweet finish. Better than most of theirs.

This pours a clear dark copper with a tiny head of foam that shrinks quickly to just a ring around the glass.
The smell is malty, sweet like Port, with a slight bitter note or two.
Yummy the taste is.Besides the Port like character, which I almost always dig, I get some nice nutty tones and more than a bit of bitterness.
Medium body goes well with the light carbonation.
A real treat of a beer for me and my palate.

Cask@Charlies Bar, CPH - reddish brown pour with off white head. Very sweet malty aroma and taste, some caramel, fudge toffee, dried fruit, some herbal notes but overall on this outing but to overt sweet for my palate. ---Sent via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow. This is so delicious. Very malty but not overly sweet. Light bitterness, definite notes of cinnamon when I swish the beer in my mouth.

Cask at 32nd WHOAF. It pours jet black with a minimal head. The nose is rich, roasty, earth, umami, liquorice, black jacks, oily, dried fruits and garabaldi biscuits. The taste is big old fashioned liquorice vibe, booze, wood, earth, treacle, eccles cake, oily, umami, charry wood, tar and spice with a rich, warming finish. Full body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Rich and complex. Big liquorice character to it. Crazy stuff, but tough going.

Bottle courtesy of Worldbeertaste. Poured a clear reddish amber with a bubbly round head. The aroma is rich fruity with some malty vinegar notes. The flavour is medium sweet light bitter with a smooth oily red berry fruit alcoholic light bitter palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation. A Christmas beer like no other!
