According to Lauren, the imaginator of this pucker-pleasing ale, Lychee fruit is so insanely sweet and flavorful you almost can’t stand it alone. Sour to the rescue! Tart Lychee is brewed with exotic lychee fruit and cinnamon, and then blended with sour Felix from our wood cellar for a citrusy, tropical sip that attacks with an invigorating tart bite. Explore the tropics, but brace for the wild.

Bottle courtesy of Nisse666. Pours hazy golden with a rather small frothy white head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny sweet, tiny sour and fruity with lychee, dry soil, lemon juice, apricots, barnyard, hay, white pepper, dry wood, grapes and hints of citrus zest. Taste is tiny sweet, sour and fruity with lychee, apricots, mandarin oranges, dry soil, hay, dry wood, green grapes, lemon zest, lemon juice and hints of brett. Mouthfeel is round, tiny dry, slightly tart and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sour and fruity with lychee, apricots, dragon fruit, passion fruit, hay, crackers and dry soil. I feel I expected much more from this...

Tap at Harry’s Lips of Faith tap takeover. Pours cloudy light amber with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma is tart, sour lemon, a bit of funk, some citrusy notes. Flavor is also sour lemon with noticeable cinnamon spiciness, fruit, yeast. Tartness is quite mild actually.

Bottle at the Funky 8, Brooklyn, NYC. Pours hazy gold with a sturdy, white foam head. Fruity sourness starts in the nose. Medium sweet flavor, well and sour, with a nice lychee character. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Lingering sour notes to finish, light dryness, soft lychess. A pretty nicely balanced sour beer, and the lychee adds some pleasant fruitiness.

tap - Pours very cloudy grapefruit colored and smells of wild yeast funk and lychee. It tastes sweet, fruity, and refreshing with tartness and wild yeast lingering in the finish. Very tasty.

Draught @ Freakin’ Frog, Las Vegas
Aroma is sourm with apples and earthy notes. A blear touch of bretta here. Flavour is somewhat sour and tart with apples and earthy notes. A bit watery finish with a touch of grapefruit. Refreshing, but leaves an empty feeling.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a cloudy yellowish orange with a small white head. Aroma is quite tart, with the lychee quite upfront and not much else. Flavour of pungent lychee, very tart and puckering, slightly peppery. Thin body, as expected with the fruit used. Not my favourite style or favourite fruit. Decent attempt.

14 oz draft pour at Blanc Burgers in Leawood, Kansas. The pour is a very hazed orange copper, with a smallish white head. The aroma is tart sour citrus rind, along with a a bit of yeasty bathroom odor. The taste has a nice tartness, shows the fruit of the lychee nicely. The tart lightly sour fruit integrates well with the malt backbone, tartness is in the finish along with a bit of the earthy musty yeast. That mustiness has some woodiness to it, so must be showing some oak or some such. The palate is medium bodied, a lower carbonation level, and the tart slightly dirty finish. Nice, interesting beer.

Bottle: Peach color with a modest white head. Nose is intense with sweet, fruity, and tart bits. Light presence of the oak. The tartness really mellows out in the flavor, being more soft and fruity. Nice flavor profile overall. Didn’t pick up on the cinnamon though. Refreshing.
