Yo-Ho Harenohi Sennin Strong Ale 9% Deep reddish brown in color with a minimal head and a big bready caramel aroma. Full bodied with a slightly raspy carbonation and bitter biscuity caramel flavor. Kind of full on but tasty sweet. All in all a good beer that hides the abv well.

About 250mls at the Yona Yona beer works, pours an opaque amber with a wisp of white head. Nose has malt, toffee, leather, some HP sauce, booze. Flavor is real barleywine off the top, malt, caramel, toffee, booze, leather, orange rind. Finishes full bodied, a little booze burn but not as sweet as I was worried it would be. 7 2 8 3 13

Tap at Craft Beer Market Toranomon. Dark amber colour with small golden head round the edge of the glass. Aroma is sweet, alcohol, fruity, regular barley wine smell. Taste is nice, quite mellow, lots of fruit, touch of caramel, chewy, raisins, treacle, malty. Pretty nice.

Tap at the Yona Yona Bar, Shinjuku. Poured a hazy dark brown colour with a frothy, mostly lasting off white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, slightly grainy, boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich, slightly oily, toffee apple, warm, boozy alcohol bitter palate and lingering boozy finish. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Nicely balance with flavour and little alcohol burn.

Draft at Yona Yona Beer Works, Tokyo. Hazy amber brown with a tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, toffee and butterscotch. Flavour is light heavy sweet and bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

750ml bottle with a cage. Lovely brown-orange, clear, with a thick, low head. Nose is minerals ad fruit, orange, esters, apple, light banana. Also chocolate and light caramel. Flavor is much more treacle caramel and toffee, Sweet, but with a cirsp bitter finish. Estery apple, banana. A touch of coffee maybe. Finish is well bitter. Somewhat thin, but silky.

Barely any head. Deep dark brown body. Earthy toffee aroma with caramelly sherry notes. Sweet malty syrupy toffee taste with earthy notes. Full-bodied. Hot, slightly flat mouthfeel. Sweet earthy caramel and toffee aftertaste with dark wood and honey notes. Final notes of paper at the very end. Very complex with lovely shifts in aftertaste. Excellent. Really outstanding. (0.2l draft at Popeye, Tokyo.)

On tap in 2017, was told it was the 2015 version. Pours a reddish amber color with a small white head. A big sweet berry nose, toffee. A very nice rich BW flavor, toffee, strawberry, leather, darker malts. Belgian candy. Lovely.
