While looking for old sherry barrels, we cannot get lucky all the time. While we will be sourcing barrels directlyy from bodegas to assure provenance and quality, we had a batch of Pedro Ximenez (PX) barrels that was on the peated side (albeit subdued). As a result, we decided not to use them for Zenne y Frontera, but to blend them with other fruit lambikken into geuze and fruit blends. This is the first of such blends to be released. Sour cherries were macerated partly on young peated lambik and partly on two-year old straight lambik in a stainless steel tank. We blended with young and three-year old lambik. 55% of the blend is old lambik and the final fruit intensity is 567 grams of sour cherries per liter.

750ml bottle I picked up at Craft Beer Cellar in DC. Dark garnet amber. Cherry and funk and some sherry and smoke. Flavor is so much cherry and raspberry. Barrel is overwhelmed in many ways by all that fruit. Jammy. Full bodied, tart, great body. 8 3 8 5 15

750mL bottled October 7th, 2020, drunk 8/16/22. Clear, deep cherry-red with blackish-burgundy hues. Little/no head. Soft, earthy, vegetal sherry with just a touch of spicy peat mixes with full, enveloping, meaty, but well-macerated cherries. Funk is pretty minimal with only light-to-moderate lactic acidity and light Brett. The sherry and cherry combo works surprisingly well with all the different notes represented - earthy, spicy, sweet, tart, dry, fruity. A lot going on here and it's infinitely sniffable as any good lambic should be. Soft and malty, with lots of wheat and barrel slickness, good structure with high attenuation and moderate lactic tartness on the finish. Cherries add pepper and fruity, fleshy meat alongside earthy, sherry-like barrel notes. Big and flavorful, yet balanced and surprisingly soft. Again, the sherry and cherry complement each other incredibly well and its a real pleasure to drink.

Bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a hazy reddish purple with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has earthy and sour cherry with light funk and a hint of oak backing. Flavor has a real nice sour cherry and funk combination with a bit of grass backing.

Tons of sour cherry notes, sherry notes beef up the cherry notes. Don't get much acidity for the sourness. Itty bitty smokey funk finish.

Backlog Dec 21. Blend No 79. 19/20, bottled 07/10/2020. Deep, dark red body, with almost no head. Aroma with lots of juicy cherry, funk, wood, leather, some smoke, slight peat. Tastes similar, with the peaty notes coming through a bit more. Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes medium acidic, very fruity, a bit wooden, slightly smokey, with apple zest and cherry. Tasty. The peat notes are quite subtle, with some smokey notes. The cherries are pretty dominant still, with quite a lot of acidity. Not that different to their regular Krieks, maybe needs some more age. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16
