In celebration of our 31st anniversary, this year's imperial porter was inspired by Turkish coffee and uses cold brew from our very own Scott Hughes of Third Rock Roasters.

I cannot keep the bottle unopened forever. Sadly it is my last bomber of Black Butte since the brewery has gone to 12 oz bottles. While I do miss the 22 oz bottles, I do not miss the wax dip, so much work. Finally, lifting the bottle for a pour into my New Belgium snifter to see a brown-black body with a respectable head of tawny tan foam. The smell is delightful with dark fruit, berries, chocolate and grain. And the drink only runs laps around the scent. Dark chocolate, tobacco, coffee, dark plums, licorice, scorched wheat bread, wood and some booze. The sweetness is more than offset by the bitterness. Really good, this tasting makes me nostalgic. Bottled on 6/11/19, just to say.

Sample at Aficionado's during the TTA Monthly Meeting on 10/25/2019. Brown-black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patchy lacing. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, coffee, roast malt and fudge. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and coffee aftertaste. Good beer all around.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown / black with a small tan head. Nose is full of cardamom upfront, followed by bourbon barrels, coffee, and a hint of dark cocoa. Flavour is rich, with lots of cardamom, coffee, cocoa, and bourbon barrels in beautiful cohesion. The cardamom adds a really nice accentuation here, with the bourbon, coffee, and chocolate in great cohesion. Excellent.

Bottle. A- Cardamom, slightly roasty, mild cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, tan head. T- Cardamom, cocoa, booze. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Had a Jordanian beer with these ingredients that I loved so this was worth a shot. Good stuff but just short of being exceptional. Lots of tasty cardamom and enough barrel aging to add influence but not overpower. I just wanted more coffee. It felt too subdued. That said, still great, just not as complex as I hoped.

Crowler pours with a dark mahogany colored body that supports tan head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, chocolate, booze and oak. The taste delivers smooth dark roasted malts and chocolate leading to smooth boozy barrel character and a dash of spicy oak. Solid sipping experience.

Black colour with brown head. Too much smell of cardamom, not my favourite. Liquorice flavour, moderately sweet, with strong cardamom flavour; some booze burn.
Ok beer, but definitively unbalanced.
