(Bottle) Black colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark chocolate, coffee, cacao, oak wood, dried fruit and hints of treacle. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, treacle, dried fruit, prunes, cacao, oak wood, a touch of red wine coming through and a generous cacao/coffee bitterness in the finish. Light tannins. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Rich and tasty. The wine barrel character is evident, but quite balanced. Great beer!

Dark brown, no head, I mean it's boozy but so much complex dark malt - rye bread, rich chocolate, that hit of vinous barrel, demerara sugar, damn, this is good.

Draft. Very dark brown. Smells like red wine a bit. Taste is fudge, chocolate, vanilla, dry oak, marzipan, light spices and coffee. Solid sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied. Lovely, not boozy at all like the regular can be.

2019 vintage. Tap at Aces and Ales, Las Vegas, 19th February 2022. Pours a black beast. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, caramel and wood. Taste is smooth as silk, barrel, chocolate, wood, light from the wine barrel, never too sweet, complex, fun in the Vegas sun

Bottle thanks to Jules. Pours a dark brown with medium beige head. The aroma is strong oak, chocolate, roast. Slick body, milk chocolate, nuts, roast, light booze finish, very nice.

My 1000th rating. I earmarked Napa Parabola for this event about a month ago because of my enjoyment of barrel-aged imperial stouts. The 12 oz bottle was acquired at a high markup liquor store in Las Vegas a bit over a year ago, a decision to buy I have not regretted as the beer was not available prior or since. Today I will use my first real tasting glass, a New Belgium snifter. I'm sentimental that way I tilt the bottle into the glass to see the expected but still appreciated dark brown-black body topped by a steady replenished, parchment tan head. The smell is a bit different, perhaps because of the wine barrels. Whole grain bread, chocolate and something vinous. And now I get to the drink. Wow, much more impact than the nose. Dark chocolate assuredly, berries, graham crackers, dark bread, leather and the wine working its way in. Slightly sweet beginning and a decent bitterness ending. Everything I hoped it would be.

8oz crowler thing from Max's pours a dark brown/black with some legs and some khaki head. Nose has a lot, malt, licorice, both black and red, dark grape preserves, lees, tobacco. Flavor has chocolate syrup, cherry jam, licorice, molasses, crackers, black sesame, port. Finishes slightly off dry, full bodied, malty.
