The original 3BEANS recipe came from ancient texts which described Baltic brewers making beer with beans. For this special barrel-aged version of 3BEANS, the Mad Scientists carefully calibrated the beer with cold brew coffee, rich chocolate, and notes of oak and bourbon to round out the profile.
After years of tinkering with small batches, we went all in on this barrel fleet — 200 bourbon barrels from Widow Jane house the precious liquid that will make up Sixpoint’s first-ever network-wide barrel release.

Smooth coffee, warm and soft whiskey, cocoa drink, roasted malts. Actually very nicely balanced and enjoyable. 4.1

I debated getting this beer for a while because I have had 5 Bean stout and whilst I enjoyed it, I enjoyed it as a beer, I enjoyed it far less than I enjoy the average RIS. I kept going over the description and I was tempted by reading bourbon so I got a 150 ml. pour at BeerTemple. I got a professional and pleasant beer but not the chocolate candy smothered in bourbon classical USA BA RIS, oh well. This one is taste wise bit more old school with actual faint roast, dark chocolate, low booze, dark fruit, coffee, faint roast, faint umami even, good balance, bourbon is a bit too mild for me and maybe bit of a too muted balanced beer for what I like. All the same pleasant smell of chocolate, coffee & complimentary spirit so still very tasty with classical pitch black & creamy mocha head appearance, faint plastic thick bodied.

Draft at beertemple. Aroma of tonka bean, vanilla, coconut, hopjesvla, caramel, mocha and chocolate. Taste has earthy tonka, coconut, vanilla, caramel, hopjesvla, mocha, coffee and smooth subtle bourbon. Very good.

Pretty nice, despite my waning interesting in such beers. The nose and flavor features a hefty dose of coffee, some roast. The bourbon barrel didn't seem to do much, there was just a vague hint of oaky funk, but no obv bourbon flavors otherwise. It had the reduced carbonation and smoothed out mouthfeel of a barrel aged beer though. Alcohol was not overly present, giving it a nice semi-sweet finish. Full palate but not too thick. Quite drinkable really.

Mini-can from Bine & Vine. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate bourbon with coffee following along. Med ++ body. Flavor is pretty much coffee and chocoalte, with the bourbon and wood accompaniment. Lots of flavor. Not dry, but the earth and wood, not to mention the coffee and whiskey help with that. Very flavorful. Magnificent.

Can. After looking at my review for the original I say this doesn't fair as good. Mild espresso beans, weak chocolate and just a hint of barrel treatment. The flavor has nice roasted malt, flismy roasted coffee beans. Again, don't get much barrel here. Some black coffee earthy bitterness toward the finish. The body feels really, really, light. Honestly, overall I think I like the original more because the body was better.

Draught @ Malt & Mold. Opaque dark brown with small foamy beige head, mocha aroma on a woodsy background, adequate carbonation, medium bitter lightly woodsy mocha taste with alcohol undertones, smooth thick body, long mocha finish with mild alcohol aftertaste. Quite smooth and satisfying.

Draft sample at Dominion Wine & Beer, thanks Tyler! Black with tan head. Aromas of caramel, whiskey, dark chocolate, coffee. Tastes of whiskey, oak, dark chocolate. Full body with a dry finish. Tasty.

On tap at Belmont Station, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of coffee beans, bourbon barrels and a hint of cocoa underneath. Flavour is decadent, with lots of bourbon barrels upfront, followed immediately by coffee beans and moderate chocolatey sweetness. Cohesive and robust. This is excellent.
