Bottle thanks to the Boise crew. Pours a jet black color with a large light brown creamy head. A roasty dark fruit nose. The flavor is ash, dark fruit, heavy dark roast, metallic a bit, as it mellows the cherry wood really comes in. Funny that in cherry wood beers that power of suggestion always has me tasting cherry...Hmm. Anyway, this is a lovely beer. Maybe a bit dry compared to many impys which is fine with me. Smoky. This would be amazing with some good BBQ. Lovely.

On Tap at the Boise Brewery. Classic black stout. The coconut is a big player and the sweet modest roast and chocolate flavors really make this taste like a candy bar. The aromas even more so. A touch of hazelnut or almond extract would put this right in to "Almond Joy" territory. Nice variant.

On tap at brewery. Coconut adds sweetness, but still allows the roast nature to shine through. Silky smooth, chalky friends, roast grain bitterness, minimal heat. Nice addition to the Beast family.

Bottle. Very dark brown pour with a large, creamy brown head. Thick sticky lacing. The smoke is light in the aroma, roasted malt and a faint sweetness. Flavor is lightly sweet, roast, smoke, and bittersweet. Lingering smoke finish… a little bittersweet baker’s chocolate.

Bottle from Woodland Empire, WE bottle share. Another stellar batch based on the Beast Moans brew. Oak aging adds lots of wood notes as well as the brandy character on top of this already luscious beer. Rich, complex, flavorful, a delight for the senses.

Vanilla and cherries add a lot of sweetness and character to this stout, no bitterness, additions cloud the normal stout character, but in a good way.

Wax-dipped bomber bought at the Boise Co-Op. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, bread, wood, earth, light ash, licorice. Pours opaque black with a thick tan head with great retention; leaves some nice lacing. Taste is bittersweet, roasty, licorice, light smoke, raisins. Good tasting beer. I just wish the smoke was stronger.

Bottle shared by BuckeyeBoy. Served in a snifter, a deep reddish brown with a rusty head. Chocolate, sweet syrupy cherry aroma. Chocolatey, smokey, a bit of fruity cherries. Great stuff, one of my favorites of the night and in marked contrast to their Astrodamus which was one of my least favorites.
