Limitedly produced dark sour beer by Amsterdam’s Butcher’s Tears, tasted from tap at Bierkoning during Carnivale Brettanomyces. Medium thick, mousy, greyish beige-white, open head on a very dark chestnut brown beer with blackish appearance. Unusual, fragrant aroma, very tea-like, with other aspects of elderberries, dry sherry, liquorish, balsamic vinegar, acorn shells, sweet cherry tomatoes, plum wine, wet wood, cloves. Sour onset, blackberry and tomato peel effects, softish carb, dry balsamic- and sherry-like middle, nutty maltiness providing a bit of supporting sweetness under that ongoing tartness; tanic woody dryness develops in the finish, long and a bit astringent, a tad ‘dusty’ too, but embellished by retronasal aspects of tea, cloves and even a whiff of dried lavender. Complex, dry and interesting brew, among the most interesting ones I had from this craft brewery so far even, but weird and unusual all the same.

Tasting glass draft @ Foeders. Black, bigger creamy mocha head. Nose is weird like sweet desert base mixed with balsamic vinegar, chocolate cake & vinegar. Taste is balsamic Oud Bruin vinegar with plastic, tobacco, leather, earth, finish is lime juice. Thin weird plastic body with lime juice, a bit too much for me and bit messy.

Draught @ Foeders. Clear very dark (but not opaque black) color, red/brown hue. Light brown/beige head ,not too much, but with good retention. Aroma's: sweet & sour, fruit, berries, cola. Retronasal it's sourish, fruity, something roasty/chocolate (?). Flavor is above moderate sour, berries. Light bodied. Finish is slightly dry, light bitter. Barrel aged?
