A dark brew, hardy and warming with a slightly sweet malty character balanced by a pleasant hoppiness. Blackfriar is known as a 'wee heavy'. Whilst not an international classification this term has been used in Scotland for generations to describe strong ales

Cask at GBBF, 2011. Pours an orangey colour with a quickly dissipating head. Vinous aromas of calvados apples, currants and sweet spices. Deep, warming flavours of baked apple and vanilla. Heavy malt presence. Big alcohol burn. Malt heavy finish. Nice.

50cl bottle. Poured mahogany color with a thick head, everlasting lacing. High carbonation. Aroma is caramel malt and toffee. Flavor contains some roastedness, along with toffee and some fruity notes. Finish is sligthly dry. Quite decent, no alcohol detected, and not that sweet as I thought it would be.

Reddish brown beer with a big, thick and beige head. Aroma is toffeeish, malty, red berries and nothing else. Taste is malty, toffee, some fruitness, enough of bitternesss that dryes nicely sweetness. Medium bodied and slippery to drink. Overally, there are nothing to complain, but still slightly boring beer; something "own trick" would be needed.

(Bottle, SurjΓ€mten, Duved, 23 Dec 2010) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of apricots, orange, caramel and fresh citrussy hops. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, apricots, orange and a fresh citrussy bitterness in a finish with a slightly earthy bitterness. Slightly more than medium body, with some sweetness shining through. Tasty and well balanced. Very nice beer.
