Old Guardian (vintage 2012) was my final beer at a tasting session at Aces & Ales in Las Vegas. The bartender suggested this one from a number of barleywines available on tap. It arrived an attractive dark amber and had a full covering of light tan foam. I immediately picked up the ripe fruit smell before taking a drink. And that drink followed with more of the ripe fruit, malt, cereal, karo syrup and something field. Enjoyable, I hope to locate again.

650ml Bottle - Dark amber/light copper in colour. Pine, toffee, raisins and sultanas in the aroma. Leather, peach, pine, dried apricot, sultanas, caramel and raisins all feature in the rich and warming taste. This vintage is from 2012 yet is still fairly fruity and hoppy for a beer of this age.

Bottle at home. 3 year old. Has a slightly hazy deep reddish orange color with a small ivory head. Lots of hops in the aroma with apricot, ammonia, caramel, oak and alcohol. The flavor has a lot of caramel along with sweet biscuit, grassy hops, harpix, ammonia and dried fruit. Full-bodied, soft mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A rich, hoppy and well balance American barley wine. The hops area surprisingly present after three years.

Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Caramel malts, raisin and plum. Clear amber gold with a huge beige head. Toffee, caramel, molasses and a hoppy dark sugar finish. A little one sided with tons of sugars but little other interesting flavors.

2012 vintage. Pours amber with nice light tan head. The head stays for a long time. Aroma: intense barley, hops, hints of sweetness, raisins. Taste: intense sweetness and bitterness, caramel, fruit syrup. Very long strong bitter finish, little bit lingering. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall: really nice one, really hoppy barley wine.
