Forleden dag. Fyldig, kraftig og heftig. God, farlig god, men kanskje litt for mye av det gode.

65cl bottle from Alko Arkadia. Vintage 2012. Mahogany color, lasting dirty white lacing head. Looks great. Dark bread, maple syrup, nutty malty and hoppy aroma. Flavor has bitter hops, bread, dark fruits, sweetness, hint of alcohol. Finish is very bitter and grapefruity that lingers. Complex, full bodied beer. Perfect for long winter nights.

(Bottle, 0.65 l - 2012 vintage - 11 % ABV, from Alko Arkadia, 20120921) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had sweetness, molasses, hops, pine, malts and alcohol. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, molasses, pine and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. Even though the beer was very hoppy the maltiness was the forward component and the hops balanced the sweetness nicely. A suprisingly well balanced American barley wine.

2012 release. 22 oz. bottle. Aroma is sweet with strong caramel overtones, and a very slight hint of vanilla. Appearance is a deep reddish brown. Head is light-tan, frothy, and full. Flavor is very strong and smooth. Caramel and toffee are the main flavors. Medium body that is creamy with a smooth, but somewhat "sticky", finish.
This is a very strong tasting beer, and as such, makes it difficult to pair with any particular food. If you just want to sit down and relish a beer, then this would be a perfect beer for that. However, due to its strong taste, it is difficult to enjoy more than one of these at a time. Definitely, one of my most favorite beers.

650 ml bottle - 2012 vintage. Pours a reddish orange with little head. Aromas of toffee and malt. Sweet toffee and citrus flavor with obvious alcohol notes. Bitter after taste. Very nice, but not as balanced or as fulsome as expected after several months of cellaring.

Hunger Mountain Co-Op $8 per bottle. 2012 Vintage
A - Deep dark amber color. Tiny head that fades almost instantly.
S - Big caramel profile. Big dark fruits and ultra sweet feeling on the back of the nose. Maple syrup? Caramelized brown sugar? Very nice mellow malt backbone
T - Very sweet and pretty boozy. Big bold barley wine taste and is for sure an exceptionally fresh beer. Cinnamon and some very earthy aspects. Very heavy on the malts. For sure would improve with age.
M - thick viscous mouthfeel. 100% Carbonation on the mouth feel. Heavy body. Very big beer. My friend calls it heartburn inducing.
O - Yeah. Fresh, it’s a little too boozy and hot for me. Sweetness is also pretty intense. Needs to chill out a bit and improve just a tad before I have this again. Luckily, I have a few of these left. A-

2012 bottle, 13C. Copper with an inch of pale beige head that settles to a coat. Aroma of vanilla caramels, biscuit, spices, grapey alcohol. Creamy to syrupy texture with gentle carbonation. Sweet with firm drying bitterness. Light spices, some pine and grapefruit zest. Drank this one to see whether it would be likely to turn out well later, but it’s very lovely now.
