Hazy, pale gold with a frothy, white head. Grassy and herbal aroma. Taste is bitter the whole way through. Grainy, bitter finish with mild floral notes. Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation. Crisp, refreshing. Decent pils.

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass with a nice small head. Fresh hoppy aroma. Starts mild, fresh hoppy notes, bitter background. Hints of lemon, some apricot. Grasy-bitter finish. The hoppy notes could be a bit more balanced. But still a nice fresh hoppy Pils.

50cl Fles van Bierothek Bamber. Goudgele kleur, witte kraag. Grassig, vanille, bisongras, moutig, goed bitter, iets herbaal. Lichte body. Prima Pils, heeft weinig met Keller te maken.

500 ml bottle. Cloudy dark yellow orange with a creamy head. Buttery notes, vanilla, biscuits, cake, zesty citrussy hops, resin, bitter herbs, slightly metallic, grassy, grain, hay, grapefruit blood orange zest. Intense hoppy bitterness, some grainy sweetness. Medium bodied, oily texture, lively to soft carbonated, hoppy zesty buttery finish. Excellent stuff, Bohemian Pilsner??

Unfiltered Pilsener (and so almost automatically a Landbier of sorts in German beer nomenclature); from a small brewery in a village in Bavaria, more specifically the Fränkische Schweiz region. Swingtop bottle of 50 cl from Dranken Geers. Thick and foamy, egg-white, frothy, tightly plaster-lacing, stable, pillowy head on a very faintly hazed, warm 'old gold'-tinged deep yellow blonde robe with disparate but active sparkling. Aroma of white bread dough, field flowers, semolina, breakfast cereals without the iron, freshly cut grass, unripe green pear, vague hints of dry cookies, flour and minerals. Vaguely sweetish onset with equally vague sourish undertone (green apple) but evidently very low in fruitiness, rounded and lean mouthfeel with lively, minerally sparkling, but nowhere overcarbonated like most macro-brewed industrial lagers; slick and almost somewhat oily white-bready maltiness with grainy edges, adding something flour-like, remaining restrainedly sweetish and clean till a grassy, floral hop bitterness comes in near the end, at just the right moment, making for a dry, bit rooty ending nodding at quinine and bitter weeds. This hop bitterness lasts quite long and almost, but not quite, overrules the relative sweetness of the malts - a key feature of most good German Pilseners in my book. Executing the sheer simplicity of this style to perfection is not an easy task, but this one, in existence only since 2007, manages to connect with its own 19th-century heritage of southern German Pilseners, when the style was still young and bastardized, watered down, 'fake' versions of it did not yet flood the world; this Pilsener is pure and sleek, but has flavours and subtleties scattered throughout which you will never find in a macro-brewed standard pale lager. It is, in fact, indecent to compare a Pilsener like this to that vast ocean of bland 'wet air' beers - this is Pilsener the way it was intended and for me an excellent example of the style. It has been a long time since I had a German Pilsener of this class and quality level. Prost, auf Herrn Kugler!

.5l at Hop Dog pours a clear gold with a big cap of white head. Nose has malt and grain and grist, honey and flowers. Flavors are soft, floral, dough, soggy bread, honey. Medium bodied, soft, fluffy finish.
