Is there any pairing more perfect than sour beer and stone fruit? We start with the very best fruit: yellow nectarines grown in the bright Central California sun at Blossom Bluff Orchards, along the banks of the King’s River.
Picked at peak ripeness, we add the nectarines to a sour base beer, combining the funky flavors of brett with a bright acidity to highlight the fruit. The result is something special: golden hued beer with fruit aromatics jumping off the glass, the last of summer captured in a bottle.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in Fall 2016. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of juicy nectarine, peach, fruit pits, sour lemon, lime, orange, pear, green apple, white wine, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light leathery funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, nectarines, wine barrel, and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of juicy/tangy nectarine, peach, fruit pits, sour lemon, lime, orange, pear, green apple, white wine, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light leathery funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of fruity/lactic sourness, yeast/tannic oak spiciness, and fruit tang on the finish; with lingering notes of nectarine, peach, fruit pits, sour lemon, lime, orange, pear, green apple, white wine, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, nectarines, wine barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/sourness balance; lightly puckering but not astringent after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from sourness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, and acidic/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a very good fruited sour ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, nectarines, wine barrel, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the fairly strong acidic/tannic flavors. A bit strong on the fruit, wine barrel, and Lacto over the Brett character; but I think some age would help round this one out. Still very enjoyable right now.

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy golden color. Nice aroma, sour, lemons, passion fruit, kumquats, some funk, very light vanilla. The mouthfeel is very dry, and acidic; some pukery sourness, some fruit.
Excellent.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out acidic stone fruits, light funk and medium tartness. Flavour is very bright with the acidity, with tart nectarines, and a dry, lightly funky finish. Not overly complex, but nicely structured and easy to sip. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden yellow, small white head, dissipates fairly quickly, some lacing. Aroma is loads of stonefruit, peaches, a hint of sulphur, lemon, oak tannin, a bit of basement. Flavor is light plus tart, loads of stonefruit, light clean funkiness. Light plus body, a bit low on carbonation, but really really nice overall. Necarines should be used more often. Phil, you are really killing it lately.
