Bourbon Street Stout is an Imperial Stout that is aged in Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon barrels. Our Imperial Stout is brewed with a combination of pale, caramel, chocolate and roasted malts. Oats are also added to give the beer a fuller and sweeter taste. The roasted malts give the beer its dark color as well as its intense flavor and aroma. After fermentation the beer is cold aged for 6 weeks. This is necessary for all of the flavors of the malt and hops to balance and produce a very smooth flavor.
After the cold aging the beer is transferred into the bourbon barrels. It is then aged for another 8 weeks to absorb all of the flavors from the barrels. The result is a strong stout that brings out the roasted flavors from the malt and the warming toasted, vanilla, and bourbon flavors from the barrels.

The 22oz bomber pours with a nice dark colored body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up chocolate brownie and cookie notes mixed with sugary malt sweetened black licorice and loads of fairly smooth cheap bourbon. The taste starts with sweetened coffee and black licorice to go along with near bruising nearly rough nearly hot bourbon boozy notes. To midway and into the finish modest sweet vanilla and spicy oak notes join in to aid in distracting you from the rough booziness.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/10/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted oats, vanilla, toffee, coconut, bourbon, oak, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted oats, vanilla, toffee, coconut, bourbon, oak, and roast/oak earthiness. Light roast/oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toasted oats, vanilla, toffee, coconut, bourbon, oak, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great malt/barrel balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged imperial stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, wood, tobacco, alcohol. The taste is chocolate, vanilla, nutty notes, roasted malt, whiskey, cherries. Medium bodied, low carbonation, lingering booze, decent balance. Nice beer, and beyond Abita’s usual standards.

22oz bottle pours a dark brown with some creamy, off white head. Nose is mostly just chocolate syrup and vanilla beans, some mild booze, some toffee, some mild oak. Flavor follows along, malt, some molasses, more dark chocolate, vanilla beans, mild booze, caramel, a little toasted coconut. Full bodied finish. Got a lot of barrel for only 8 weeks.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown with a foamy/creamy dark tan head. Aroma is rather mild bourbon with some chocolate and dark malt. Maybe a touch of treacle. Full bodied. Flavor is very bourbon, very chocolate, definitely treacle. There even seems to be a bit of bourbon heat. Yeah, heat is heat, but this is really about bourbon. Those PVW barrels must be really (insert appropriate word here). Finishes mildly "hot" bourbon with lots of chocolate and dark malt. Very tasty stuff.

On tap at the Fred. Pours black, with a small, bubbly, tan head. Big, lovely bourbon character - notes of charred oak, vanilla, and butter toffee, salted caramel, and molasses. Very sweet and boozy, with a light, fairly pleasant roasted bitterness. Heavy body, syrupy, creamy, and clean. Overall, this is a fair stout that showcases some excellent bourbon notes. I wish the base stout was a little better, but still a quality beer.
