Orange Crates began as a Belgian style Blond ale, fermented with a historic Belgian ale yeast, and dry hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops. The dry hopped Belgian Blond was then conditioned on Brettanomyces Claussenii for 2 months. The beer was then bottle conditioned with the Brett C. for 9 months prior to release. This is a toast to arguably one of the most well respected, recognizable, and style bending beers ever created. A deep cut of some of the grooviest funk brewed with our friends at The Answer.

Bottle. Orval glass plus another glass for the remnants. Clear amber with a white head that's soon a fat coat. 3+ Funky aroma with mandarins, twiggy and spicy Brett, crackers, peaches. Fruity and perhaps slightly sour with lots of twiggy & old pineapple notes. A little bitterness is left - presumably this is old. Dry. Wisely inspired by and not trying to be just like. Very nice.

In the bargain bucket at Master of Malt. Vintage bottle. It pours hazy bright pale yellow with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is lovely...musty, funky, massive brett vibes, barnyard, tangy orange marmalade, peach, kumquat, spicy, green, hay and some squidgy sponge cake. The taste is firmly dry, bitter upfront, brett, funky, barnyard, slightly metallic, gooseberry, white grape, bitter orange, kumquat, peach, grassy, spicy, straw, hay, splash of white wine and touch of alcohol kick with a drying, woody finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. A nice bod to Orval. Has aged well. Fun stuff.

bottle slightly hazy yellow, white head. initially sour aroma, then malty sweetness, flowers and a more bretty yeasty note sets in. decent amounts of funk and cellary notes, the whole thing is very well balanced and complex, notes blend in well with each other. flavor is bretty with some lemon, a little flowers, quite dry, belgian yeasty notes, tastes A LOT like a strong belgian blonde type beer, and it tastes real real good.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Earlsdon, Coventry. Consumed at home Friday 8th February 2019 down the office on an evening when we should have been in London. Pours yellow orange, hazy with a small/mid sized white head atop. The Brett adds something wonderful here, lovely yeastiness, good fruitness, nicely smooth but quite a punch, a lovely boozy edge, dry finish. Lovely.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2018 vintage. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, mandarin orange, white grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, passion fruit, papaya, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, clove, pine, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, wet wood, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/earthy hops, and light-moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, mandarin orange, white grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, passion fruit, papaya, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, clove, pine, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, wet wood, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; pepper/clove yeast spiciness; and light Brett tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, mandarin orange, white grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, passion fruit, papaya, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, clove, pine, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, leathery/musty funk, wet wood, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/earthy hops, and light-moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a nice malt, bitter, tart, spiciness balance. Mild lingering astringency, but not overwhelming. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spicy/tartness. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and lightly acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.1%. Overall this is an excellent wild Belgian blonde ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, citrus/earthy hops, and light-moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV, despite the increasingly bitter/resinous/drying finish. If this was less bitter, probably would have been even better. Awesome balance of fruity/funky Brett C, Trappist yeast, and citrus/earthy Mandarina Bavaria hops; with a solid pale/wheat malt backbone. Zero residual sweetness from crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example as expected.
