The aroma is very strong, with notes of barrel and lightly roasted malt and chocolate. Notes of barrel and liqueur sweetness, along with caramel, are present, but still quite refined. The colour is dark but not black, with almost no head and a slightly oily body. The palate immediately reveals alcoholic undertones. Balanced sweetness, caramel, notes of cake, and honey. A hint of dried fruit and spices. The finish is even more focused on caramel and honey, with a hint of molasses. Spices return, but to a lesser extent, with a light malty and burnt flavour of dark chocolate, perhaps even coffee beans, along with notes of dried fruit. Overall, a top-class beer.

Bottle pour shared by ClarkVV--thanks, Clark! Clear cola brown, no head, no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, toffee. Taste is strong caramel, dark fruit, cloyingly sweet sugary candy. Smooth texture, finish as taste. Too sweet and mild alcohol burn.

12 oz bottle thanks to Clarkvv! Rome is raisin, toffee and mild sugar. Flavor is caramelized malt with a lot of dark fruit. Raisin, prune, again caramelize sugar. Not super sweet, but still sweet, never the less.

2022 330mL bottle drunk 1/11/25.
Clear ruby-auburn. Dark. Clear. Small, light-tan head to ring quickly.
Rich malt with good acidity. A bit of roast, but tons of burnt caramel, light vanilla. Not boozey. Bit of banana and circus peanut from the yeast.
Rich, sweet, some light roast, lots of circus peanut. Not elegant, to say the very least. But it's not thin, at least. There is malt texture here. Lingering pepper and acidity. I don't hate it, even if I don't respect it.
Leaving it cellared (buying it cellared, I'm lazy) makes this so much better.
Phew. Smooth licorice and hint of smoke. It's like velvet.
bottle at fins ...deep red brown ...thinest lacing ..soft smokey chocolate Roast malts nose ...meaty earthy ..myshroom umami ..woody big boozy chocolate umami
