50 cl bottle. Rated on 21.09.2009
Amber orange colour. Aroma has some grainy malt and hints of smoke. Flavour has grainy malt and some smoke. Kind of reminds me of Schlenkerla Märzen, even though the smoke aroma is way much weaker on this.

50cl bottle from Bierzwerg, BBE 05/2012. Poured mahogany color with a steady almost white head. Aroma is smoke, bacon and malt. Flavor is sweet caramel, weak smokiness. On the sweeter side, but quite well balanced.

Bottle, from trade with Maria. A whiff of ham-like smoke escapes the glass when pouring. A small, off-white head forms on top of a clear, amber body. Smoak, malts, caramel and piney hops on the nose. Some apples too. It’s dry and smooth carbonated, with a lasting bitterness and some smoke in the end. Initially there’s ham, caramel and bitterness. A nice smoked beer but it ain’t in the same league as the classics from Brauerei Heller. Wouldn’t mind drinking more of it though. 110722

7/10/11/11/8/10

Bottle thanks to Fin and Loz, cheers guys. This beer shows why I desperately need to go to Bamberg. Love the smokey aroma, as soon as I popped the swing top lid. Clear chestnut with a thick off white head. Smoke, fruit and nut on aroma. Good in mouth, some fullness, bit of harsh carbonation from the bottling. The smoked sausage in the flavour is rather good, but not over done. Still got great drinkability. Man this is so good. Having looked at it for ten minutes now with the head still there and this beautiful clear chestnut colour, it has to be perfect for looks. Thanks to a couple of good friends for bringing me such a great beer. If this was served in the pub down the road from me, I wouldn’t move. Loved it.

On tap at Brauerei Kraus, Hirschaid, during Fin and Loz’s cycle ride around villages to the South and South East of Bamberg, Germany 19-06-10 Pours conker brown maybe a little lighter with an off-white head. Some smokiness on nose and a little nuttiness also. Smoke in mouth, sweetness also, lovely beer, despite the surly young waiter. Sat watching a young clumsy Jay skidding across the nearby tables sqwaking for the attention of its rather shyer parents. A7 A5 F7 P4 Ov14 3.7

Swing-top bottle. Sweet caramel and smoked ham aroma. Clear dark amber color with big head. Smokey, sweet flavor - like a brown sugar-cured ham. Light bitter finish. Tasty - subdued smokey flavor. Very nice.
