The Sugar Creek Raspberry white ale or, Witbier, is our raspberry interpretation of a traditional 14th Century recipe inspired directly by Pierre Celis and his original efforts to resurrect the beloved Witbier style. This beer is an unfiltered Witbier or “White Beer” to the Flemish-speaking Belgians because of its opaque, white appearance. It measures 4.4% ABV and is a wonderfully refreshing, easy drinking beer enjoyed throughout the year. Its grain bill includes nearly 50% unmalted wheat and oats while it is very lightly spiced with Coriander, Orange Peel, and all natural raspberries. The yeast in this recipe was cultured from the original strain near the town of Hoegaarden in Belgium and adds a pleasant fruitiness during fermentation. Order one today and taste the clean and subtle tartness from the raspberries for yourself!

Location: Draft at the brewery, 2/23/15

Aroma: Light aroma, fairly sweet, raspberry dominated, light yeast/spice notes.
Appearance: It pours an unclear pinkish color with a beige head and some light lace.
Flavor: Flavor is mid-heavy sweet, could use some tart or something for balance.
Palate: Pretty easy drinking, with a fizzy carbonation, and a light body.
Overall Impression: I would have preferred a little something to balance out the sweetness. For me, this beer is just too sweet and too one note (sweet).
