Inspired by the full bodied rich and roasted black lagers of Czechia this is a beer for winter contemplation. Brewed with a double decoction mash, extended boil and packed with British grown fuggles hops this beer is big, bold and will leave you wanting another

[33cl can from Beer52.] A cola brown pour with a billowing caramel coloured head; rich caramel malt aroma; rich malty taste with cinder toffee, smoke and caramel to start; then a powerful bitterness from the burnt grains. Very good indeed.

Black beer, thick and foamy light tan head. Smells of chocolatey malt. Flavour has toasty malt, a little sweet chocolate and some caramel but still lots of hops in there as you'd expect from a lager. Grassy hop but still works with the almost porter-y elements as well. Interesting and very tasty.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from All Good Beer. Pours clear brown with a foamy, beige cap. Delicious beer, lovely toasted biscuits, chocolatey malts, light leafy bitterness, brown bread. Light to medium bodied with massaging carbonation. Subtle roast in the finish, nips of earth, more chocolate accents, toasted biscuits. Super drinkable. Impressive.

440ml can from Dart Farm, Devon: BB 23rd October 2021. Poured into an old Tuborg pint sleeve at home on 15th September 2021. Dark cola in colour, tanned foam head. Roasted malts in the nose and taste, the Fuggles appear mid-sip and give some bitterness and balance. This brewery seems to specialise in Lager/Pilsners and I've enjoyed all that have come across my path so far.

440ml can. Smooth, soft and slightly roasty malty with some grainy notes, hints of caramel and earthiness. Okay.

Final of the Utopian lagers, and my favourite. Rich malts, but with a light, crisp finish. Excellent.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Clear amber/plum body with a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of coffee and Coco Pops. Flavour of lightly roasted malt and charred wood. Thin to medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Light and roasty.
