Old King Cascade is our first packaged Barley Wine. We've kept this classic style just that; classic.

Sweet and malty with a subtle low carbonation, this beer bursts with notes of dates and dark fruits.

Can ordered from Suds & Soda, Derby. Aroma is rich booze sozzled malts, with dried dark fruit. Opaque cola brown. Foamy beige head soon develops a significant bald spot. Oh, yes... rich and malty as per the aroma. Figs and raisins. Boozy bitterness edge. Molasses and fruit juice. Thick bodied. Oily. Flat-average carbonation. Long astringent finish. We have a winner. My cold has instantly cleared up. Get this in for Christmas. If you're lucky it'll be another lockdown so you can drink this in your PJs whilst eating beige food.

Can. Color: Very dark ruby, going to black. Very thin beige head. Aroma: Malty, sweetish, dark fruit. Sirupy. Taste: Over medium sweet, malty, caramel, fudge, dark fruit, dates, molasses, boozy, some hop, hints of almond, vanilla, spicy rye and roasted malt. Moderate hopbitterness. Full body. Low carbonation. Quite dense mouthfeel, a little sirupy but not as sirupy as indicated by the aroma. Nice complexity. Going towards an English Old Ale in my opinion. Very nice slow sipper.

Sample from Pilsnertest. Dark amber with off white, brief, head. Malty, slightly fruity aroma with raisins and dark bruléed caramel. Sweet, burnt caramel taste with some raisins and misc dark fruit. Smooth with a touch of heat in the finish. Great stuff!

Five guys on a mission, Shrewsbury Beer Share in Chez Sophie: 9th Aug 2021. Last beer of the evening, cheers Paolo for the 440ml can of this excellent brew; BB 14th Jan 2022. I thought this was lovely. Golden amber body, off-white topping. Malty nose and taste, on the sweet side; which my sweet tooth loved, boozy, smooth and very drinkable. Almost fell a sleep on the train home!

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie August 21, as the final beer of the evening. Was starting to get a bit blurry by this point already without finishing on a 15% barley wine. Pours dark amber, good off-white head. Aroma is sweet, taste bringing to mind raspberry puree and dark fruits. I think at the time I thought it was a raspberry beer, though I see it's not. Great harmonious balance of flavours, great beer to finish on, though it is quite sweet.
