Stormstay is Hanlon’s premium bitter. A strong amber ale, surprisingly smooth with hints of toffee and citrus.
Dark amber to copper in colour with a toffee and floral hop nose and hints of tangerine. Malt caramel and biscuit nestle with the three aroma hops, Phoenix, Styrian Goldings and Cascade. Late hopping with citrusy Cascade cuts through the alcohol sweetness.

Stormstay has won may awards including the prestigious Champion Beer of Britain Silver award.

Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester – though I have drunk it before. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy off-white head. Toffee to the fore in the aroma plus just a hint of hops. In the mouth it is slightly bitter with a creamy texture. Plenty of malts, citrus and biscuits in the flavour and later on hints of ginger and autumn fruits as well. Bitterness intensifies in the slightly dry finish. This is a decent premium bitter.

Cask @ White Hart, Todmorden. Darker clear copper with a creamy head. Has some pleasant and mildly bittered caramels. Decent body too.

Bitter with a slightly fruity nose, but little of this is evident in the taste.
