7. Forgotten Decibels - 2019

“he went out into the close and heard suddenly how there was no noise at all”

Dark corners of ruins are rarely as shadowy as those secreted recesses of your mind. Perhaps solace can be found in silent contemplation. Within this Abbey-style beer classic Belgian esters wrestle with the plum and prune sweetness and lie, panting, amongst the earthy, dry finish. Sometimes a noise can snap you awake; sometimes the absence of sound, those Forgotten Decibels, can consume you if you let them.

Keg draught at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Reddish brown and hazy with a ring of beige head. Aroma is bedeck'd with spicy yeast, toffee, boozy dates. Sweet taste, noticeably spicy with delectable stone fruit leading to a finish that is surprisingly bitter, and surprisingly dry. Aftertaste gives more date and plum with a bitter almost medicinal twist. Body not up to much for the ABV but the heavy carbonation makes up for that. Nice.

Hazy amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is light and crisp. Thin malts, some creamy sweetness, some caramel. Tangy dried fruits. Smooth floral dry finish shows a pinch of spice. Clean but thin and a tad wishy washy. Perhaps more focus on the beer and less on the over florid descriptions thereof?
