A classic hoppy best bitter full of body, brewed using Goldings hops.
The name derives from Ynys Enlli – Bardsey Island, at the western tip of Llyn [Brenin Enlli = Bardsey King]. A hundred years ago, there was a 200-strong community of fishermen and crofters on the island. It was customary on many islands, to elect their own ‘king’. The last king was Love Pritchard, who ruled the island from 1911 until 1925 when he led the remaining inhabitants to the mainland.

500ml bottle from, I believe, Bay Hop. Pours a very clear copper, thin white ring atop with a respectable amount of lacing. Aroma is gently sweet caramel. Confidently sweet to taste, a really appealing toffee character with an additional spiced marmalade fruitiness. Decent stuff.

500ml bottle: BBE Nov 19. Drank at home on 23rd May 19. Nice traditional Bitter with a malty front and base. Amber with a white head, looked clean and clear in the glass. Decent hop bitterness arrives mid-sip, but this is more malty than hop bitter.

Bottle from Vinomundo, Conwy. Amber coloured traditional bitter with a thin head. Quite ordinary in terms of its character within its style, but healthy enough with a session texture. Tried from cask at the Oldham Beer Festival 2025.

50cl bottle from the Spar in Rhos on Sea. So, I was excited to try this after having the blonde which was very good. However, this was disappointing - yes it had a touch of the toffee and the biscuits but generally rather cardboardy and with butterscotch too. Not the worst but disappointing after the blonde - maybe it’s better on cask.
