NightPils is an amped-up Imperialized Dark Lager that's black like the Winter night sky. The dark malt backbone brings notes of chocolate and dark fruits while the lager yeast provides a clean, silky finish. Like a cold chocolate milkshake at a Drive-In Double-Feature!

Deep brown coloured body with a slightly opaque glow, about 80%, all with a nice tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of roasted malt, toast, raisins, figs, bright grassy and resinous hops with a little bit of alcohol and some mild astringency towards the end. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive smokey and roasted malt profile strikes first and leaves a very nice oaked and charred flavour to couple with some mild hops that hit soon afterwards and show a touch of sweetness from caramelised sugars, but ends very dry and malt-centric. Aftertaste shows the malt more than anything with a nice mild smokey flavour with some sweetness, a touch of astringency and a mild alcohol bite towards the end that makes this a bit more pungent. Overall, a nice and enjoyable smoked lager that shows the sweetness and the hops very well with some strong complexities for a lager, yet remains easy to drink! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased yesterday from Raley's in Vacaville, California on 10-March-2019 for US$4,99 sampled in my hotel room here in Fairfield, California on 11-March-2019, a day later.

Bomber too myself on 6th March 2019 while on holiday in California. Lovely dark body, black in fact; the head a lasting tanned affair that gave off some decent lacing. Aroma is of singed, over roasted malts, taste also very malty with bitter ground coffee grains being the main flavour in this dry and bitter brew. Dark and bitter chocolate notes join the coffee as the beer warms a little. I know it's classed as a Schwarzbier, but at 8.1% ABV and with such a depth of flavour and body feel it's certainly different to any others pigeonholed into the style I have had so far; and a whole lot better!

Bomber. Black, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roast, smoke. Taste is roast, chocolate, smoke, herbal and piney hops. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Odd but solid.

Bomber from the local Raley's Grocery. Pours dark brn/blk with a frothy tan head. Aroma of earthy/darkish chocolate. Med body. Flavor is dry, earthy dark chocolate, ashy dark malt, with some hop bitter at a decent level. More bitter than the typical schwarzbier IMHO. Some darker fruit emerges in the finish. Doesn't affect the dryness tho. Tastes good.

Bomber bottle sent by Lagunitas. Pours a big head of tan foam. But that just helps bring up a smell of roasty malts. This totally loses the fruity impression of an ale fermentation so the lager yeast is doing its job here. Taste had nice cocoa to it, but it totally dry. So this promises a lot of different styles in one glass, and largely delivers. Roasty malt, rather light on any specific hop taste, and a crisp, dry lager finish that makes this a decent dinner beer, despite its elevated alcohol.
