Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford – as Damn Dog Pours a very dark (but clear) reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Has a strong aroma of plums / damsons. In the mouth there is an overall sweetness and dark fruits predominate , along with cherries, red wine gums and a hint of roast malts. Finish is herbal and fruity. I really liked this, but it didn’t have much of a “stout” character.

Cask-conditioned, at the Gryphon, Bristol 2/9/2016. Near black in colour, with a slight, beige, head. Pleasant stout, with a touch of berry fruits, liquorice, plain chocolate and roasted malts, leading to a moderately dry finish. Good.

2nd Sep 2016: Hand-pulled half-pint in The Wrekin Inn, Wellington Shropshire. Decent enough Stout, black bodied with a thin tan coloured head. Malts lead both the nose and taste with a mild hedgerow fruit and chocolate aroma/flavour.

Cask at the Criterion, Leicester. Very black, opaque. Gentle sandalwood head on top. Plum stands out in the aroma, with some floral hints. Not ’stout-smelling’ at all but still very nice indeed. Taste is sweet and fruity with a herbal/cress backbone. Turns relatively bitter at the end with some sour astringency. Medium oily body. A nice fruity stout.
