Backlog. From cask at The Granite City, Aberdeen Airport, 04.08.12. Very pale and slightly unclear. Strong citrusy aroma. Lemon and lime, and more lemon and lime. Too much American hops for an ale. Tastes, smells and looks like limejuice. Aftertaste of lime. No hint of maltiness. Some bitterness, but citrus is overwhelming.

Cask (backlog). Golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, mildly nectary and herbal. Flavour is similar, but also has a nice crisp malty touch to it. Balanced and such, but nothing that special.

Two hand pulled pints in ’The Old Post Office’ Shrewsbury on 4th Aug 2012. The name has something to do with a local rowing club and the Olympics being on at the moment, Golden and clean looking beer with a white crown that left plenty of lacing on my pint sleeve glasses. Floral and hoppy nose with a taste that followed those lines as well. Easy to drink with the alcohol level well hidden in the flavours. Slight biscuity malt feel to stop the beer being too hoppy, nice blend.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. I didn’t understand the name until I saw the pumpclip. For the uninitiated, the 99 refers to the 99 gold medals for rowing won by members of the Leander Club, a rowing club based in Henley, where the Brakspear Brewery was originally located. In the current pre-Olympic spirit, everybody in the area hopes and expects that this total will be increased in the next couple of weeks. I’ll be there myself to cheer them on.

Anyway, back to the beer - this certainly won’t be winning any gold medals! It’s pale straw with a thin white head; and a dusty, malty aroma with perhaps a touch of honey; there’s some sweet citrus in the mouth with a biscuity body and some muddy hops giving a gentle bitterness with some lingering citrus. More a lightweight 4 than a full 8 - but even then unlikely to reach the finals.

Cask at Baxters Court, JDW, London. Pours clear, pale yellow with a fine, white foam head. Nice zesty lemon nose. Light sweet flavor with doughy biscuits, pale malts, drying out citrus - especially lemon and tangerine. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly sweet to finish with moderate toasty hay bitterness and some more lemony citrus. Decent golden ale.

Cask at Ruislip Manor Wetherspoons. A golden coloured pour with a medium white fluffy head on top. Hoppy, citrus aroma. Tastes hoppy, citrus fruit, crisp and refreshing. Surprisingly pleasant.
