On tap. Pours a murky brown with light head. Aromas of bready malts and light caramel. Flavors of muddy toasted malts with possibly some woody bourbon. Not getting this one…

250mL bottle, pours a hazy amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted caramel, and a hint of caramel. Flavour is along the same lines, with bready malt, toasted caramel, and some oxidation. Oxidized and bready, with very faint bourbon. Fun stuff.

250ml bottle. Caramely malty, bourbony and sweetish with some oak, vanilla, toffee and syrup. Okay.

Helt ok.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, 8 Oct 2016) Dark copper colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, vinous nose with caramel, raisins, prunes, bourbon and vanilla. Malty, vinous taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins, bourbon, oak wood, vanilla, toast and a balanced spicy bitterness in a finish with a warming alcohol glow. Full body, quite sweet. Quite potent, but with a mellow character and rounded mouthfeel. Very nice. (7/4/8/5/15=3.9) Rerate: (Bottle, 12 Dec 2021) Hazy brownish amber colour with foamy beige head. Malty, vinous nose with dried fruit, oak wood, vanilla, toffee, orange peel, nuts, caramel and bourbon. Malty, vinous taste with notes of oak wood, dried fruit, figs, dates, caramel, vanilla, toffee, orange peel, marmalade, roasted nuts, bourbon and a mild citric bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. Really tasty, warming and well made barley wine. Even better than the original version. Great beer.

T42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Paul. Clear gold beer, a few white bubbles for a head. Smooth palate with reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth sweetish malts. Fruity bourbon, light vanilla and tangy dried fruits. Light finish. Pretty smooth. The gold nature of this barleywine means the bourbon is front and centre, works well.
