Strong beer

This strong lager with its chestnut color and fine beige head of foam impresses right upfront with an intense bouquet of smoky notes and fruity hop aromas. Yet, its taste is gentle and harmonious with pronounced notes of toffee and caramel, hints of lightly roasted malt, and floral and citrus hop flavors. While there is also a perceptible warmth from the brew’s substantial alcohol content of 7.2 percent, the body is silky-smooth and the finish is slender, which makes this smoked Bockbier surprisingly easy-drinking. When paired with food, it is an ideal complement for such hearty dishes as a salmon flambé, grilled or smoked herring or mackerel, as well as sauerbraten or a venison stew. It is also ideal for deglazing dark sauces.

0.33 l bottle from the brewery's web shop, best before June 2025. Hazy, ruby with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, quite smoky and slightly fruity aroma of caramel, smoked ham, nuts and light raisins. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently smoky-medicinal and a little fruity taste of caramel, nuts, smoked ham and some raisins, followed by a short, moderately bitter, minimally salty finish. Medium to full body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice Rauchbock, quite smoky but not overly so, overall very harmonious and moreish.

Bottle from the fan shop in Bamberg and drunk with Nelson. Clear dark brown colour. Lasting tan head. Smokey aroma. The smoke is actually quite light in the flavour morbput the same malt fruit. Decent malt flavour. A good blend of malts to give a good balanced malty beer with smoke and fruit cake fruit flavours. Some hop on the end. I thought very good.

Bottle picked up from Weyermann Malsters Bamberg and consumed at home Sunday 27th March 2022 sat outside in beautiful 🌞 listening to Bodega - Broken Equipment. Pours a beautiful warm reddish brown with a lovely ruby glint in this sun, a mid sized off white head. There is a very nice smokiness, some fruity burnt toffee and a little fruit, slight warmth from the abv, lovely carbonation, it's a great beer.

Bottle shared by Joes. Dark amber-brown color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, firm rauch-ish, sweetish a bit. Nice though. I like this.
