Klosterbrauerei Andechs Spezial Hell

Spezial Hell

Klosterbrauerei Andechs in Andechs, Bavaria, Germany 🇩🇪

Lager - Märzen / Festbier Regular
Score
6.52
ABV: 5.9% IBU: - Ticks: 193
Its clear gleaming look and firm, fine pored head goes hand in hand with its fresh and pure aroma. Malty nuances are the first impressions.

Spezial Hell is pleasantly tangy with a full, round malt body that cannot fail to fascinate. The soft flavour carries a distinctive balance of sweet accents and bitter hoppiness.

It concludes on equally soft malty nuances – a classical festival beer in the tradition of old Bavarian brewing (13.5% original extract and 5.9% alcohol by volume).

17/IX/2012 50cl bottle from the little supermarket in Andechs @ home - BB: 16/IV/13 (2012-1047)

Clear pale blond beer, small irregular white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: stable, cow fodder, hay, little fruity. MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: pretty sweet start, sweet malts and grains, some dairy, pretty bitter, yeast touch, bit watery. Aftertaste: little bitter, yeasty, sweet malts, somewhat grassy, bit watery though.

50 cl bottle @ home, BBE 28.08.2012. Thanks oh6gdx!
Aroma has grainy malt, butter and some grassy hops. Flavour has butter, some grainy malt and grassy hops. Perhaps a bit past its prime. 6-3-6-3-13=3.1

50 cl bottle @ home, BBE 01.03.2013. Thanks laiti!
Aroma of grassy hops, some butter, hints of grain and hay. Flavour has grassy hops, grainy malt and hints of butter. A bit too grainy and sticky for my taste. A bit surprising that a more fresh bottle gets lower score, but that’s the way it is. 6-3-5-3-13=3.0

Clear golden on pour with fast fading head. Minimal lacing on glass. Taste of bread, hay, cereal. Light body an dmouthfeel, but overall decent flavor. Marked down a bit form my previous rating on another site.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle with 4 months life left, poured into a schultheiss 0.5 litre glass. This is the forth and last beer in my German reviewing Evening on 20th Feb 2009. Almost as pale as the normal Andechs Helles and with the same white head. So a golden, bright, straw coloured beer. No aroma at all, gets my standard 3 for lager/pilsner/helles. I do wish I could pontificate about the smell of a light lager style beer one day. A little sweetness hits the palate, the alcohol is also noticeable from the first sip. There is very little else to mention, no hoppy feel, malts and yeast presence is minimal. Clean and refreshing it is, interesting and exciting it isn’t.

50cl bottle pours clear gold with thin white head. The mild aroma is a little spicy with hops, a bit sugary with malts sort of a mineral to metal notes. The taste begins with a mild level of spicy hops and a good bit of sugary malts. To midway the spicy hops jump up in bitterness and at times get to a slightly sharp metallic note. The hops are met with a modest amount of grainy malts and ride into the finish. The after taste has lingering spicy hops that are still leaning more sharp bitterness than flavor hops.
