Bottled (BB 11/2007)
Hazy dark amber color, big cloudy and creamy brownish head. Very fruity banana aroma. Slightly sweetish, watery and thin mouthfeel. A bit roasty notes but overall not very fruity-yeasty flavor. Refreshing dunkelweizen, but lacks the depth of the best oneβs its style.

My bottle said Hacker-Pschorr Weise Dark, not dunkle weiss and the label looked different too. Almost a toffee aroma, but not pschorr! A tasty flavor but, was not kristal clean, I guess cause the whites are cleaner. Very good, another nice hacker product.

Cloudy, medium amber with a huge rusty-tan head that recedes very slowly. Caramelly banana aroma, the flavor shows malt with the banana coming through again.

Bottle. Molasses malt and banana-peach aroma - very nice. Cloudy orange-brown with moderate head. MIld sweet-sour malt and banana/apple flavor. A bit on the weak side. Would have gotten a near perfect score if it had a stronger dark malt flavor. Probably much better fresh. Still along with Franziskaner, the best German dunkelweizen youβll find in the states. This rating in memory of Dortmunder - a great rater. You will be missed.

A solid dunkelweizen. +++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium brown color with a small brown head. The aroma was sweet wheat malt and a hint of lemon. The flavor was dark malt with strong wheat undertones and a bit of sourness. There is not much citrus in the flavor but there is a nice hop presence. Overall I liked this one quite a bit.

I'll admit this needs a few more samplings for accuracy due to the fact that these Weizen beers just don't travel well. Not as good as the best Weihenstephan that I've had, but very similar in flavor and aroma profile. It just tasted like it was a little past it's peak.

Brown. large head. Aromas of citrus and banana, better aroma than most hefeweizens. Very little wheat in the flavor but lots of sweet malt. I would say it was an abby style if I didn't know better.

Smells like mild banana and lots of yeast, quite sweet. Appearance, as usual from this brewer, is just over the top. Huge lasting head, tons of lacing, wonderful clouded ruby-brown color. Opens up initially with a great candied like taste. Lots of sugar, some subtle banana and lots of yeast, very peppery texture and lots of clove, almost too much at one point. Very impressive, but as it settles and warms the taste starts leaving! Come back!, but it dosent, begins to start feeling watery, taste gets way too subtle. Flavor is wonderfully balanced but this beer just dosent make it to the end. I did have a 22 oz. Still, thought this would be bigger and badder and better than the regular hefe. Still a good beer, just expecting more.

Bottle. Brown amber, huge off-white lacing foam. Bready and mineralic aroma. Sweet bread base, banana, a blueberry or two, almonds retronasal. Banana finish. Medium body, sparkly. Cake aftertaste.
