75cl bottle (5,5%, BBF: 07/10/2023) from Prik & Tik Dranken Marlou F: huge, white, long lasting. C: deep gold, light hazy. A: very nice hoppy, floral hops, banana, noble hops, grapefruits, bready touch. T: medium malty base, citrus, bready, nice balanced long lasting harmonic bitterness, hay, bit saison like, banana touch, medium carbonation, great for the style made exactly in way as according to me beer should be, fully enjoyed.

Aroma has fruitess, flowers, some spicyness and green herbs. Taste has fruitness, flowers, spicyness of pepper, nice and quite strong bitterness. Medium bodied. The hoppyness is strong as it should be. Great beer and nice vintage.

27 May 2022. At Hal 16 (Dok Brewing). Cheers to Ian!
Clear orange, small, foamy, white head. Aroma of apple peel, unripe banana, apricot, biscuit, straw, wet grass. Taste has sweetish unripe apple, banana & pear in a biscuity, bready, slightly peanutty malt body with yeasty notes. Grassy hoppy finish, bitter & dry, lingering straw and unripe fruit. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Firm Belgian Blonde, as it should be.

The latest Hop Harvest by De Ranke to date, brewed in autumn last year with the hops from that harvest, used ‘green’; bottled in November. Very thick and foamy, egg-white, rocky, cobweb-lacing, stable head, lightly misty warm orange-glowing deep ‘old golden’ robe with visible sparkling, hazy and deeper peachy (with olive-greenish edges) with sediment added. Aroma of fresh wormwood leaf, grapefruit peel, bread crust, bitter unripe apricot, green pear, clay, rusk, haystack, sweetclover, chamomile, dandelion, cheese rind, clove, sow thistle, minerals and hints of something very faintly sulfuric (egg yolk) and something manure-like (farmland, stronger with sediment but still remaining very faint even then). Crisp onset, dryish, green banana and unripe apricot, medium carbonation, quite ‘full’ and supple body; nice bready maltiness with grainy core and rusk-like edges, halfway bittered by a firm, long-lasting, grapefruity, wormwoody, rooty hop bitterness leaving behind a quinine-like bitterness and subtle retronasal aspects of field flowers, freshly mown lawn and drying citrus peel. Crisp, balanced yet powerful ‘bitter blonde’, almost saison-like in a sense; the genetic relationship with XX Bitter is obvious enough. Could have been a tad fresher, perhaps, but this series can usually take a bit of age without becoming overly stale, as earlier versions – some of which I tasted at a far more advanced age – have shown. Lovely De Ranke beer, in all, as expected.
