[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading.] An attractive reddish amber coloured pour with a rim of off-white froth that laces the glass; aroma of crystal malts and some red fruit; taste to match with sweet caramelised malts contrasted by some tart berries; then some English hops adding some spicy warmth to finish. A rather good classic English bitter.

Half-pint, cask, shared with Finn at Nags's Head. Bubbles on the surface of an amber-brown body, fair lacing. Smell of bread and caramel-fruits, inviting. Fine blended taste of cereal malts, mid-sweet caramel and leafy hops. Earthy bitterness to the ending. Quite well bodied. Good, easy drinking. (Reading 19.11.2021).

Cask (Guide Dog, Southampton) - Brown in colour. Berries, brown sugar, nuts and some roasted notes in the aroma. The taste is slightly nutty and roasted along with notes of dried fruit and blackcurrant. Quite nicely balanced. An enjoyable bitter.

A very rare rerate because the Queen Inn St Cross Ale ran out. Decent juicy stuff. Seems to have a spice to it I didn't refer to previously. And a fruity streak I didn't comment on previously. A new recipe? Still a malty core but no boiled veg. Upping the score from 3.2. Oct 2018: Gravity at Queens Inn, Winchester. Malt and veg aroma. Frothy off-white head. Medium brown. Light bitter which does gain in strenght. Some hops in with the malt. Medium bodied. On the thin side. Flat-Average carbonation. Long finish..relatively characterful bitter. Avoids twiggyness.
