Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 06/03/24. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a beige cap that thins to a swirl and edging. Nose is dark malts, stewed fruits, booze, toffee, dates, vinous trace, figs. Taste comprises sweet malts, brown sugar melt, sweeter than the nose suggested, molasses, treacle toffee, booze tunes, figs, dates, light spice balance, fruit cake mix, syrup. Full bodied, viscous oily feel with a semi drying close and big punchy kick of alcohol. Fun barley wine ... veers on the overly sweet side at times but pulls back and delivers a sticky fruit cake mess.

27th January 2024 Can. Clear very deep amber brown beer, small tan head. Airy soft palate, very airy and very soft, decent fine carbonation. Soft rich dark toffee and caramel malts, hints of port wine and whiskey barrel here, but that is just malt fermentation complexity. Treacle says the can, yeah - tick. Some alcohol spice, but just mild heat. Slightly spicy berry liqueur on the soft airy spicy finish. An accomplished barleywine for me, big feckin abv, but fairly well disguised. Fluffy soft palate for easy drinking, layered flavours for constant amusement of the palate. Yeah, this is a good one and, with all these good factors, it it is unsurprisingly, dangerously drinkalble.

Pours very dark brown, with lots of dense tan head, bit too much for the glass to hold. Smell is malty, sweet, slightly toasty caramel. Dense and surprisingly soft body, boozy though. Taste is very sweet, loads of toffee, bit of dried fruit. At first it was enjoyable, but the more I drink of this, the more this cloying sweetness overpowers everything else.

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 22. Pours black with a deep tan head. Aroma is sweet, with dark chocolate and deep malt notes. Big old palate-coating barley wine to taste, nice and sweet with plenty of dark treacle, chocolate and dark fruit swirls. Very enjoyable.

31st October 2022; Shrewsbury Beer Share in Chez Sophie, only four of us! 440ml can, viscous black body, beige head (thin). Very boozy and sweet, dark fruits and caramel, a Christmas Pudding of a beer!

440ml can, kindly shared by Finn. Black in the glass, remaining fawn-coloured head, spotty lacing. Roasted toast on the nose, hints of doughy fruits. Quite unbalanced taste profile of stewed fruit, dough, and bread-like malts. Solid malt-fruity finish with warmth from the alcohol. Gets rather heavy and overly sweet, still some slow sipper qualities. (Rating session with Finn and lmojoh, Tromsø 20.06.2022).

Delt med lmojoh og Rune på Nerstranda. Svart. Lysebrunt skum. Brødaroma. Silkemyk munnfølelse. Smaken svisker. Overdøvende søt. For heftig.
