This Christmas Porter is made using Challenger, Fuggles and Goldings hops, with chocolate malt and rolled oats, and offers flavours of plum, raisin and nutmeg with a buttery afternote. Enjoy with your family and friends during the festive period. The Porter is also the perfect drink to leave out for Santa on Christmas Eve with mince pies and carrots for his reindeer! Sainsbury's Own, Night In Trio Of Ales#3. The darkest of the three this evening, and it's very dark in colour, but not quite black. A spiced winter warmer, with a light spiciness, its taste is dominantly cake-like in design. The most regular part of the porter-style is to be found in aroma.

Bottle at home picked up from Watford Sainsbury's. An opaque dark brown black coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, cakey malts, prunes, waxy candle, kamp coffee. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rounded, vanilla, coffee extract, prune jam, cocoa, Palate is semi sweet, rouned, creamy, moderate cartbonation. Bit too much adjunct,

Bottle from Streatham Sainsburys drunk at Mums/Streatham (15/12/2021) - pours dark brown to black with a beige head. Very sweet malty with notes of sweet chocolate, some notes of plum and dried fruit, some notes of spice, seems overly sweet for me. Not a fan. --- Beer merged from original tick of Taste the Difference: Christmas Porter on 26 Mar 2025 at 12:32 - Score: 5. 500ml bottle: BB 30th September 2022. Poured into an old Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 3rd December 2021. It was a birthday gift from my sons girlfriend, Steph. Black body, beige/lightly tanned head. Dark chocolate and plums in the nose and taste, not as sweet as the label blurb suggests though. Christmassy, not too sure, Plumy yes.

Bottle. Dark brown, with a thin, off-white, head. Big aroma of spice, prunes, chocolate and bready malts. Thin mouth feel, with flavours of dark fruit, caramel, nutmeg and plain chocolate, leading to a slightly toasty finish. A lot going on, but I wasn't a fan.
