We honor our Pops with this beer. His vision built the Leisure Time ice brand decades ago and inspired us to build Jack’s Abby as a family business. Leisure Time Lager is brewed with wheat and a blend of spices including lemongrass, coriander, orange peel and chamomile. A subtle spiciness balances the citrusy and floral hops added to the whirl and hopback. Relax and enjoy! Leisure Time Lager uses locally grown wheat from MA.

I guess this is the lager answer to the Belgian witbier, though to be honest, it didn’t really occur to me the first few times I had it. It certainly dosent scream Belgian wit bier like some of their IPLs do an IPA. The appearance is marvelous; a glowing, softly hazy pale gold with a mountainous, well-retained white head.
The nose is soft, understated with very light floral notes (lavendar, lilac, honeysuckle) and graceful citrus (tangerine pulp, lemon seed) and incorporates the wheat in perfectly, keeping things round and dry. The spices are wonderfully balanced and utilized perfectly, being just an afterthought in the aroma. No alcohol or flaws. Not a huge strength or force to the aroma, but given what this beer is, it’s as good as youre going to get.
Immediately comforting on the palate, the chamomile, lemongrass and wheat keeping things almost creamy, though the carbonation perks things up, as mildly bitter hops (flowers, herbs) course through the beer, brightening things a touch. Subtle spicing contributes light citrus, a touch of bubble gum and soft nuttiness. Incredibly clean, well-balanced and easy to drink with plenty of flavors to enjoy along the way.

Bottle, 0.355l. Clear deep straw color with thin creamy white head and sparkling appearance. Aroma of grass, wheat, coriander, citrus and spices. Taste starts with light sweet grainy malt, following is citric, yeasty and vinous with mild spicy, crisp and dry mouthfeel and mild bitter finish. Light to medium body, slick texture and lively natural carbonation. Spice girls’ lager...

Bottom-fermented version of a Belgian witbier it seems, spiced a bit differently, but still with the obiquitous coriander and orange peel. Pours a deep and ’sunny’ yellow blonde with somewhat greenish hue, clear with steady sparkling but hazy with deposit, under a rather thin, crackling, snow white, opening and eventually all but disappearing head. Aroma is less perfumey and less citrussy than I expected (and hoped); wheaty soapiness is certainly there, along with something sulphuric like a striked match, sweaty grains, wet cardboard, baked banana, lemon zest but not really lemon grass, chamomille is noticeable and so is the orange peel but both in a subdued way, white wine, green apple peel and, frankly, stale urine... Minerally taste, soft carbo, sourish and sweetish but otherwise relatively neutral, fruity, some banana-like sweetishness in the middle countered by clear wheaty sourishness, smooth and lightly oily mouthfeel, rather thin body, soft but drying spiciness in the finish in which I get a faint impression of that chamomille again, a bit chalky as well, with some lingering malt sweetness and a brief hint of grassy and floral hop bitterishness, quickly fading. A bit of a disappointment, though admittedly the bottle was already past its prime, I’m sure this is better when tasted fresh from tap.
