Cask at Craft Islington. It pours near black with a small tan head. The aroma is earthy roast, salted liquorice, ink, oiliness, umami and coffee grounds. The taste is bitter - sweet, oily, earthy, chewy, chewy malt, plum, date, prune, candy, earthy, ashy, coffee grounds and some grain with a tangy and fruity finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit tangy. Not sold on that tang.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. An opaque black pour with a ring of cream head; aroma of molasses; rather thin in the mouth and sweet, with a licorice taste; then becoming drier with a lingering aniseed finish. A refined and elegant porter, but needing slightly more body.
