Draft at the brewery taproom. Pours deep brown with a tight, creamy tan head. The nose has nicely rounded roasted malts, tobacco ash, cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with ashy roast, baking cocoa, day-old coffee, scorched earth. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Bitter ashy roast on the finish, more earth, cocoa, dry coffee. Nice.

On tap at the brewery. Brown color with tan ring. Roasted malts, milk chocolate, coffee. Taste is sorta sweet, but dry bitter chocolate as well, but milk chocolate in there as well. A very nice Porter!

[2/13/15] Draught at Sante Adairius Rustic Ales in Capitola. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Aroma of roast, some coffee and a bit of licorice. Flavor is quite bitter and roasty with coffee, a bit of cocoa, and a more bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

Sampled at SARA. Aroma is burnt barley, roasted coffee with light touches of vanilla. Flavor is that of a nice bold porter that I would have guessed was way over 6.5 %. Flavor of a imperial. Burnt coffee, deep chocolate, barley, toasty. Mouth feel is a tad light but right for a porter under 7%. Marvelous job.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is moderately toasty with a nice creamy oatmeal and chocolate character. Clean yeast character with faint hop notes. Pours dark brown, but not quite black with a moderately thick, tan head that slowly recedes to the edges where it lingers. Moderately high lacing with faint legs. Flavor has medium sweetness with moderate roast and light chocolate notes. Light oat character. Clean yeast character with hints of fruit esters. Low earthy and woodsy hop notes with medium low bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice, clean porter. Lots of dark malt character, but it may be missing a bit of the English yeast character and lighter malt notes.

Pretty black in the glass. Head is frothy almost with specks of white and brown. Creamy almost. Stale espresso beans, milk and Oreos. Very toasty throughout. Taste is very toasty. Mineral like mouthfeel. Coffee exploded in the middle and finishes long and smooth. Minor sweetness. Cocoa cookies. Very drinkable porter but very hard to drink a lot of it.

On tap at Sante Adairius, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out light dry chocolate, and some dusty roast. Flavour is pretty much the same, with dry chocolate and roasted malt. Smooth and drinkable, but nothing overly interesting. Solid porter.

Pours very dark brown. The color is just visible. Medium beige head. Some nice bubble patterns on the glass walls. Aroma is mostly roast and chocolate. It’s a nice rich chocolate, maybe 60 some percent dark chocolate. Some cocoa on top of that. Lots more chocolate in the taste. Mild coffee. Solid if restrained roast. Caramel sweetness in the background. Nice thick body, relative to the abv, anyway. Seems like a good base beer to play around with.
