An aroma of rich roasted malts leads to a caramel and red berry flavour followed by a lingering fruity finish.

After a short break at the hotel, this strong one starts off the evening session for Day 3 in Edinburgh. Traditional Scottish style, quite soft texture for its strength. Sat at the bar at the Black Cat.

Bottled@Nolia Beer Festival 2018. Rubyish brown colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is toffee, some roasted malts, spices and mild fruity and berryish notes. Flavour is zesty, some chocolate, toffee, spices and mild berryish notes. A bit thin for being 6.5 % but otherwise nice one.

Cask at The Abbotsford, Edinburgh. It pours dark brown with a sturdy light tan head. The aroma is sweet mall driven and fruit, roasted malt, toasty, sultana, raisin, glacé cherry, fruit cake, caramel and black forest gateaux. The taste is bitter - sweet, but more on the sweet end, sticky, toasty malts, dried fruits, sultana, bit of black forest gateaux, glacé cherry, brown bread and booze with a sticky sweet finish. Medium+ body and fine, foamy carbonation. Good condition for sure. Errs on being too sweet IMO. Fine overall.

On cask at the Guildford Arms. Appearance - deep brown to black with red chinks. Thin off white head. Nose - expecting nuts and toffee but getting oranges. Taste - light toffee but again it's more on the citrus side. Maybe a wee bit of praline at the back. Palate - medium bodied and tangy. Not as rich and sweet as expected. Overall - good if a bit atypical.
