American Beauty, an Imperial Pale Ale inspired by the Grateful Dead, captures the spirits of the band's 30 years of touring and recording. Dogfish Head and the Dead both built their followings by connecting directly with beer lovers and music lovers, so we asked those loyal fans to help drive the recipe. For more than 1,500 ingredient suggestions, organic granola was tops. It was the main course in millions of parking lot meals and is a sweet and toasty complement to the barley and all-American hops.

Draft from the Jeffrey. Orangey bown pour, nice malts and some hoppy finish. Really nothing special but a decent beer here.

Bottle. Clear pale amber with a foamy off-white head. Caramel, honey, some hoppiness, almost a bit metallic. Looks great, but taste is just okay.

Pours clear, darker blonde. Small but very stable white head. Smell is tad sweet, malty, bit 'swezty' for some reason. Taste is strangely sweet, honey and fruityness, but not in a way I enjoy. Tad bitter. Soapy to me.

750ml bottle. Resiny caramel IIPA. Filtered butterscotch orange body. Not that impressive, a little messy for DFH. Honey tones come through. OKish.

Bottle share thanks to Toby. Slightly sour aroma hints at the rye backbone, orange/copper pour. Mild, slick, slippery, finishes quick.

Keg pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is orange-golden pour without sparkle, thin white head with nice lacing. Aroma is floral but not strong. Taste is similar to nose but stronger--medium sweet with floral, hides alcohol well. Palate is medium bodied with smooth, slick texture and average carbonation Overall, this is very good with the dominant flavor of sweet versus hop bitterness.
