Dark brown colour, brown foam. Nose of dried plums, caramel, vanilla, whisky. Well balanced and complex quad. Not too thin and syrupy but very subtle. Nice!

Pours dark brown, nearly black. Small tanned layer of foam. Not very persistant, but it leaves something, at least. Smell is creamy, dark malts, some whisky ( gentle). Taste is full, roasty, tad boozy by the barrel. Whisky does show, but doesn't overpower at all. Bit sweet, perhaps. Aromatic dark malts, tad roasty, some caramel ( hidden). Thin body and drinks kinda rough ( could use a more smooth experience).

Good foxy-cream head over jet-black beer. Ashy, roast, lightly to quite smoked, quite phenolic, peated, Islay (!, supposed to be Speyside???) malt. Smoked, again peated whisky, some quite sweet malts, restsugars. Finish has chocolate arriving. Chewy, alcoholheat, full bodied, viscous. Good!!

6 October 2018. At Modeste Bierfestival, Antwerp. Cheers to Anke & Elke!
Beer list at Modeste said 11%; official site of Tall Poppy mentions 10% ABV. Hazy dark brown with a very thin, tan head. Strong aroma of apples (acetaldehyde?), calvados, pear syrup, plum, caramel, earth, whisky, faint peat. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, apples again but plum & caramel added to that; possible cloying countered by a light roasted bitterness, a bit herbal & tea-like, note of toast, touch of raisin. Dryish, peppery & earthy hoppy finish, warming calvados alcohol & burning chili. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Supple Quadrupel with a nice, spicy touch in the end.
