Flanders Red is an acidic, sour ale with an initial impression of tart cherries and sour candy that dissipates into a complex palate displaying both a sharp lactic sourness with a backbone of caramel and biscuit malt profiles and minimal hop character. The dry, wine-like finish accentuates the complex malt profile and bright fruit notes showcased in this brilliant red colored hybrid of a modern Flanders and German-style sour.

12 oz. can from Binny's. Brisk tart fruity smell aided by a fizzing head. Brownish red color, almost dark, with an equally reddish foam. Taste is zesty sour cherry. A note of lactose does not keep it from getting more sour with each sip. I think the style itself may be a bit hard for me to get behind. Sourness keeps getting bigger.

Can thanks to Drake! Reddish brown, clear, small and soft off-white head. Nose is black cherry, tart cherry, light vinegar. Flavor is tart cherry, light metallic notes, lemon juice. I can almost taste the acid reflux coming as I sleep...

12 ounce can. Reddish brown color. Brief foamy beige head. Caramel malt aroma hints at cherries. Sour malt flavor upfront. Notes of cherry or plum. Not certain. Thin, watery flavor. Tastes a bit vinegary. Dry vinous finish. A pale imitation of the Flanders Red/Bruin style.

Can Clear amber body with a minimal head. The aroma is fruity and vinous. Lightly fruity, tart flavor. Not bad, but lacks the true flavor of a Flanders Red giving way to becoming another sour beer with a typical kettle soured beer flavor.

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 11 Nov 2018) Dark red colour with creamy beige head. Fruity, sourish nose with caramel, red fruit and cherries. Malty, fruity, tart taste with notes of caramel, red berries, raspberries, cherries and a tart finish with a slight sweetness. Medium body. Low bitterness. Fresh and tasty, but fairly uncomplicated and lacking some vinegar character. Quite nice.

355ml can. Slightly cloudy, amber-ish, red-brown colour with small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Lactic, fruity aroma, notes of vinegar, green wood, sauerkraut, cautious hints of morello, red berries and plum. Taste is dry, tart, slightly fruity, minimally woody, subtle sweetness is incoporated in hints of morello, red berries and plum, lactic hints of sauerkraut. Lacks depth and complexity compared to the paradigmatic Belgian template. Quite refreshing and drinkable though due to its simplicity.
