A true classic, Spitfire Amber is the head of the Spitfire family and a true taste of Kent. It was first brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, played out in the skies above Kentish soil. It is brewed using 100% Kentish hops, the finest malt and water drawn from a well deep beneath Shepherd Neame’s Faversham brewery.

Basic brown bitter, wonderful aroma of flowers and grass. The taste is straight malt all the way down, with a lovely mouthfeel. English hops at the end.

Complex roasted bitter aroma, but definite chocolates in the taste. Light and refreshing.

Can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this before: this hand pulled pint was taken at a local pub on the 4th sep 2011. Reddy brown body with an off-white topping which hung around throughout the pint. The smell and taste can be easily combind, you’ll find semi-sweet biscuits that contain toffee, caramel and nuts within the mix, towards the end of the mouthfeel a dry hoppiness pops up to remind you this is a proper beer. Sadly the body is a bit watery thin, a shame because everything else about the beer is fine, well carbonated and easy to drink.

Drucken på fat på Sir Tobys i Malmö. En relativt lätt och ljus engelsk ale. Humlen är det som gör ölet. Fin beska och mycket smak. Jag gissar på golding.

Re-rate @ Starbank Inn, Edinburgh. Pours amber with a nice head. Nose of toffee, hob nob biscuits. Taste of chocolate biscuits some preserved ginger. Nice mineral note coming through. Palate medium bodied, creamy and tangy texture nice bitter finish. Overall, a classic bitter well executed. It’s a shame that my previous experience was not as good and it shows the huge variation in quality between good alehouses and bad. Previous rating 30/06/11 5+3+5+2+10. Cask at Ryries Bar, Edinburgh. Pours amber/red with a slim head that hangs about and no bubbles. The nose is of toffee. The taste is of hay and caramel. The palate is light to medium in structure and texture with a malty and not too clean finish. Overall, it’s alright but I don’t want another.
