Bottle: Poured a dark burgundy color ale with no head and no carbonation. Aroma of caramelized sugar with oak and vinous notes is quiet sublime. Taste is a superb mix of caramelized malt with some light residual sugar balanced off against some oak and sweet white wine notes. Body is quite full with no carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Incredible beer that sips very well with loads of complexities but very high drinkability.

Sample, BOTTLE 50 CL. 2012 vintage. Hazy red-brown, almost no head. Tart dried cherries, intense, cheesy, old moldy barrel, light spice. Malty and rich, yet dry and tart, tart dried fruit, dried cherries, light nutty and spicy, easy drinking. Very good.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy dirty brown color ale with no carbonation. Aroma of oxidized sweet caramelized malt is very nice. Taste is a nice mix of caramelized malt with some residual sugar, oxidation with a light watery finish. Body is full with no carbonation. Very nice level of complexity and oxidation is actually quite well balanced in the mix. The only thing that bothered me is the watery thin finish.

Tasting @Queen Makeda Grand Pub (Rome). Bordeaux, limpida, schiuma assente.

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como, corked, batch feb 2019
Opaque dark amber color with large bubbles that can’t be called head. The aroma is malty, lightly earthy, with dark fruits, raisins, nuts, later some tobacco leaves; not as strong as the Lune 2012, but more pertinent to beer, and more complex. Surprisingly the sweetness is very subdued for a Barley Wine; the malt has some raisin character, interesting mild tartness from the barrels, integrating wisely without overpowering; finishes with mild tannins, and weaker end.
Impressive aroma, more elegant than Lune 2012.

Bottle - Stewed plums and toffee. Cloudy amber with a small head. Sweet red fruit, plum and toffee. Nice wine notes with a touch of nice acidity. Quiet nice.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber with almost no head. Aroma is decadent, with lots of treacle toffee, vinous red wine notes, and light alcohol. Flavour is similar, with subdued red wine, followed by some vanilla, a little caramel, and booze. Deep, complex, and with a warming finish. Decadent and well-balanced.

A 0.5 l bottle, vintage 2012. It poured a hazy copper to brown body with no head but still some carbonation there. Aroma showed me some caramel, sugar, dried figs, wood with just a touch of fruity red wine. Flavor was sweet, not overly, with caramel, dark fruits, toffee and other fine barley wine notes pleasantly "spiced" with tanine rich, red grape skin. Woody as well, quite much. Medium bodied with moderately long, sweetish and tart tanine finish that was also lightly warming. Unlike Lune, this is very slightly vinous and this wine varietal obviously pairs better with sweet barley wine. A very pleasant one!
