Originally brewed as a special to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar in 1805. However, production of the bottled version and, occasionally, the cask has continued.
This premium bottle-conditioned ale has been uniquely brewed using our own Cornish Gold malt. Locally grown barley is traditionally malted using a special kilning process which develops a deeper intensity of colour and flavour than ordinary barley malt. Blended with both Styrian Golding and Cascade hops, the result is a deep bronze ale with a delicious rich biscuit flavour and a wonderful spicy aroma.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Gallows Real Ale Festival 2011) The beer poured deep amber and almost clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma was malty and sweet. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, hops, fruitiness, white bread, herbalness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A below average ESB in my opinion.

En ESB med karaktäristisk stor maltkropp med småkakor och toffeetoner utan att vara för söt. Dessutom en frisk humle profil åt citrus hållet tack vare cascadehumlen. Välgjord men men lite tam avslutning och eftersmak.

Very small light-beige head over intense foxy-amber clear beer. Bit vinous nose, fortified by grapey hops, citrussy; a nose more like an American pale ale; yet some hidden cookies wafting in the background. Caramel, near toffee, but only moderatly sweet; very malty, and surrounded by a minty framework. Just the finish is a bit lame, as if the effort of presenting an excellent beer has drained resources. Carbonation fast gone, ending empty; but the body remains more than light; slick. Very good light (continental spoken) strong (British spoken) ale. Good one, Roger, did you plan a little maltbomb to be presenting itself as a C-hops marvel? Thank you very much, JezzaP, worth asking for!
